Oh, hello there. I didn’t notice you at first. I was busy writhing out of the ropes that tied me to these train tracks.

What is this, you wonder? In fact, you wonder, what the hell is this? This is a meme. It’s from the internet. If you say you don’t know what a meme is, I don’t believe you. If you insist you don’t know what a meme is, fine. But I’m not defining “the internet” for you. Jerk.

Meme /mēm/ (n.)
1. An element of a culture or behavior that may be passed from one individual to another by nongenetic means, esp. imitation.

2. An image, video, etc. that is passed electronically from one Internet user to another.

Why am I slathering this knowledge on you with the shining butter knife of the blogosphere? So you may know about the 1960’s Spiderman cartoon meme.

These gems float around 4chan, the /r/4chan subReddit and other strange places on the internet. This meme has been around since 2009, but it is still shrouded in mystery. Awkward screencaps of an old, ill-funded Spiderman cartoon from the late ‘60s are the signature of the meme, making it perfect for inappropriate innuendo, awkward non sequiturs, unbalanced inner narration and aggressive statements of wrath.

How are you feeling today? If your answer is, “Shut up” or “Drugs,” you might make the next great picture in this series. Do you give enough fucks to make your own 60’s Spiderman meme picture? Create one here or here or here
