Eleven months a go, to the day, we did an introductory sort of a Matthew Hemerlein listening party. We told you about the six instruments he plays, his own brand of mannered pop that genre hops and and played a couple of songs for you, and 19 comments of praise later (When was the last time a BYT listening party garnered 19 comments? Probably 11 months a go.-ed) it was obvious that DC was ready for more Matthew, more of the time, and thus started what I like to call “the 2010 Hemerlein DC domination” (which, of course, was very well documented all over BYT: our Family Hemerlein collaboration with him and Seaton Smith, the HOWL string quartet adventure, the La Roux remix success, and more), which is to culminate with the album release of HOT NICKELS today @ U Street Music Hall.
We’re happy to say that everything we said a year a go still applies and then some, and even though, with CMJ (where he is, among other things playing a couple of shows with SOKO) and his birthday today (Happy Birthday!), it is a busy week, I pulled some strings and had him send us a note about the record and hand pick a couple of songs to listen to from it.
In his own words:
All of these songs were written no longer then a year ago and some were even written within the last month.
Go Here:http://matthewhemerlein.com/, follow him on twitter here & facebook here and come to U Hall tonight for his record release party for “HOT NICKELS” for a dose of pure Matt or stop by our very own spooky pre-Halloween edition of Family Hemerlein next Thursday to see how well he plays with others
