Last night at Rock and Roll Hotel I had the chance to become a voyeur into the lives of two recently transitioned lyricists and musicians. Mina Caputo of Heavy Metal and Life of Agony opened for Laura Jane Grace, lead singer and founder of Against Me!.

Both artists sang their hearts out with stories of love, loss, and identity. At one point Caputo said she was touched by the tears of a young lady in the front row, the overwhelming support Laura has from us, her fans, and remarked on a song that would likely be sung at her funeral (if a plane crash was her demise).

The crowd packed in tight for roughly a little over 90 minute set by Gainsville’s own Laura Jane Grace. The set featured songs of old, new and some unheard. Grace led the audience in an emotional ride that would feature songs like ” Fuck My Life 666,” “Harsh Realm,” and “Osama Bin Laden as the Crucified Christ” and a killer 3 song encore. The stage presence of Grace made it seem like she was accompanied by a full backing band, when in reality the band were the roaring sounds of fans singing her praise and of course lyrics.
