Photos and Words by Clarissa Villondo
When I first started working for Brightest Young Things as an intern, I was asked if there was anything I wanted to shoot over the Labor Day weekend. The only thing that came to mind was a show at Rock & Roll Hotel with Kill Lincoln, Boardroom Heroes, BraceFace and Collapser. Things have changed since that show, such as me improving as a photographer, Ryan Ford of Collapser moving out of DC, Boardroom Heroes changing guitarists and Kill Lincoln raising enough money to buy a tour van. I’ve gotten to know some of them more as well, baking for one of them, shooting Kill Lincoln’s first 9:30 Club show and interviewing Kill Lincoln about their first coast-to-coast tour. We all turned another year older; at least, half of Kill Lincoln and Collapser bassist Matt Cohen all became a year older in the last three weeks. What hasn’t changed was that those bands’ sets remain to be some of my favorite sets I’ve ever seen by local DC musicians.
I could barely believe that Boardroom Heroes and Collapser would be opening with Still Alive for Kill Lincoln’s coast-to-coast DC tour kick off date at Rock & Roll Hotel. After hearing Boardroom Heroes’ and Kill Lincoln’s newly released songs (“Never Ready” and “I’m Getting Too Old For This Shit” respectively), I knew nothing was going to stop me from going to see this show, join in the “Fuck you, Alan” (“Birth-day, Alan!”) chanting and of course, wish Kill Lincoln well for tour.
