After releasing the official track listing and artwork for her highly-anticipated new record, “The Electric Lady” (out September 10), R&B superstar Miss Janelle Monàe hosted a private listening party at Gibson Guitar Showroom last night.
The evening was as irresistibly adorable as the songstress herself, complete with incredible cuisine — courtesy of KitchenCray — live painting, an all-pink dessert bar, and peach Ciroq cocktails served in cups with Ms. Monàe’s face on them. No detail went unnoticed and the unbelievably gorg Cover Girl even made sure to spread the beauty love by providing complimentary foundation, lipstick, and nail polish for the females in attendance to
fight over take home.
Perhaps the most unusual (and the most awesome) aspect of the experience was when attendees were asked to take off their shoes and put on a pair of complimentary socks to dance more comfortably on the pseudo-grass floor. Everyone obviously obliged and even the pint-sized phenom herself performed barefoot, making it feel as though you were just casually dancing around in your backyard with a Grammy-nominated singer. NBD.
Looking oh so chic in her signature high-waisted black pants, white button down shirt and black hat, Monàe made the intimate evening absolutely magical by engaging with the audience and prefacing each song with an anecdote about how it was written and the inspiration behind it. The record features massively buzzed about collaborations with Erykah Badu, PRINCE, Solange, and Miguel, and from what we heard last night — the buzz is more than justified. Monàe’s electric soul prowess is evident on every track and her vocals are so polished and pure they will make your jaw (quite literally) drop. Brace yo’selves.
