Remember back in March when I said it was 2006 all over again after seeing Taking Back Sunday? It’s still 2006 (and also my 2009). Say Anything played Baltimore Soundstage this past weekend. Granted, Say Anything played little from …Is A Real Boy and they had an orchestra playing every song with them. Say Anything belted out “Woe” and “Wow (I Can Get Sexual Too)” from ...Is A Real Boy, but didn’t play “Alive with the Glory of Love,” which was the song I wanted to see the most.
Opening for Say Anything was Modern Baseball, Cymbals Eat Guitars and Hard Girls. While all three bands were great, Cymbals Eat Guitars was the best in my opinion, but I’m biased. I’ve shot them a handful of times before and at this show, even admitted that I’ll likely always have a space on their list. Being able to shoot them again is always throwback to my 2013 where I saw them in a small DIY DC venue 9th & Beats. Since then, I’ve been able to see them play more established venues, such as DC9 and 9:30 Club, when they opened for Bob Mould. I may or may not have sang along to “Jackson” and “Warning” in the photo pit.
It was great being able to shoot one of my all-time favorite bands to shoot and be able to check off one of 2006 me’s bucket list band. Now if only Brand New allowed photographers…
