The Power of Positive Drinking: The Running of the Bros @ Port City Brewing Co.

The long Winter is over and at last the sun has turned its warmth on us once more. Spring is here to grace us with beautiful weather and the awakening of all of God’s creatures. The birds, the bees, the flowers and, of course, the bros. You may know them by many names, as there are many species. But each has their own distinct call. “Bro.” “Bruh.” “Brah.” “Broheem.” “Braj Mahal.” “Brosef Stalin.” Each year at this time, they shed their pea coats, don Ray Bans with sunglass straps attached and strut boldly from their over-priced domiciles wearing either pastel button-downs and boat shoes or flip-flops and neon tank tops. The Power of Positive Drinking would like to invite you to join us as we observe this marvel of the natural world as it unfolds before our very eyes. Commentary and narration to be provided by DC’s finest comedic talent. – FB

Kamau Bell and Nato Green, for their grassroots Laughter Against the Machine comedy tour to America’s most volatile political hotspots. A sarcastic, snarky smart bomb of comedy funk straight from the 80’s, Janine has been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle and The SF Weekly called her “a mean lesbian.” But she’s pretty sure that they meant it in a good way. – www.drafthousecomedy.com

Sweater Kittens and VI Lenin @ The Unified Scene Theater

Famous Communist Revolutionary Vladimir Lenin apparently adored cats, and any image-search of the former Soviet leader will invariably yield a photo of him with a cat in his lap or arms. No word on whether cats liked him, since they, characteristically could give one crap about anyone or anything else on the planet. At The Unified Scene Theater, we’re rather fond of both, which we’re playing host to both DC independent scene lovelies Sweater Kittens, and our brilliant House Troupe VI Lenin, one of the best improv troupes in the city. For lovers of exceptional improv, both troupes combined are veritable catnip. Stop by. You’ll be glad you did.
Your Feature Troupe: Sweater Kittens
Sweater Kittens — DC’s all-female super-group — is the purr-fect mix of sass and smarts. Playing together since spring 2013, the Sweater Kittens have performed at stages across DC, as well as at the Del Close Marathon, the Chicago Improv Festival and the Baltimore Improv Festival.
Your Headliners: VI Lenin
VI Lenin VI Lenin (Nick Murawski, Rich Nyman, Joe Uchno) explores the world and characters around us just as soon as we figure out what they are, sometimes before. Rooted in discovery and patient scenework, each Lenin show will take a different form. We follow whatever discovery is most interesting and see where that takes us. Come along for the ride. We’re going to have a good time together.

Comedy Kumite 6 @ DC Improv Lounge

Comedy Kumite (koo-mih-tay) is a one-night stand-up comedy tournament — eight comics enter, but only one leaves! Each “match” has two comics doing five minute sets, and the audience picks the winners. It’s a showcase presented with the flair of pro wrestling, but probably less spandex. Who will be our next champion? Featuring Becca Steinhoff, Jason Weems, Umar Khan, Chris Milner, Lafayette Wright, Hillary Scofield, Rallo Boykins and John F. O’Donnell. RUMBLE! – DC Improv

That’s right: after a feral journey through the DC improv-scene firmament, chalking up body counts as they chalked up laughs, Oh, The Horror is heading back to the hoary netherworld from whence it came, taking its final bows as both a show and a House Team at The Unified Scene Theater.
What does that mean? That this, absolutely, is the very last time you’ll be able to see this show. Why? Because stupid show producer Jordan Hirsh is stupid-moving back to stupid NYC, and taking his show with him. And who could blame him? It’s a brilliant premise, brilliantly done: Oh, The Horror takes the unintentional hilarity of some of worst horror movies and makes them intentionally hilarious. After watching clips from some of the very worst horror movies we can find, the cast takes the stage to finish the scenes in the unexpected — and hilarious — ways that only improvisational comedy can provide. This show is an offshoot of New York City’s very popular Gas Station Horror, created by J.W. Crump and Jordan Hirsch in 2013.
The Final Cast of Oh, The Horror! Includes:
Jordan “Horror” Hirsch
Greg “Tombstone” Tindale
Macey “Scythe-Wielding” Schiff
Pete “Blood-Curdling” Bergen
Eva “Eerie” Lewis
Katie “Otherworldly” Ozog
Jordana “Misery” Mishory
This is not a hoax. This is real. Our last show. Don’t miss it.
