We’ve rounded up all the comics, troupes and events that hit the area in the next month for your comedic pleasure. Get in the know.
This comedy tour features comedians from both DC and NYC. Some of these great dudes include Dan St. Germain from VH1’s Best Week Ever, Adam Conover from College Humor, Jared Freid from MTV’s Failosophy, Sara Armour from the Laughing Skull Festival, and Brandon Wardell from SXSW.
LYGO DC, also known as Laugh Your Grits Off, is a local comedy troop that performs throughout DC. While they are known for their Wednesday and Sunday shows, they also want to bring attention to the concept of brunch and comedy. Starting Saturday, June 15, LYGO DC will begin performing a brunch show at Shaw’s Tavern, making you snort mimosa out of your nose. Their troop is made up of local, professional comedians. They perform at various locations throughout the month, so check their website, linked in the subtitle above, for the dates and show locations throughout the month.
Known as both the “comic’s comic” and “The Pitbull of Comedy,” Slayton is famous for his intense and energetic comedy. He has appeared in films such as Get Shorty, Ed Wood, and Bandits and has voice-acted in TV shows such as Family Guy and Dr. Katz. His distinct voice has also been featured on several radio shows such as Howard Stern and Tom Leykis.
Matt Braunger began his career as a child actor. However, his fame began later in life. He has appeared on various late night shows, such as Conan and David Letterman, as well as having a regular spot on Chelsea Lately. He has also guest starred in shows such as Showtime’s United States of Tara and Pushing Daisies. Braunger has performed as various comedy festivals and even won “Best of The Fest” at the 2008 Rooftop Comedy Festival in Aspen.
Caliendo is best known for his spot-on impressions. He is particularly famous for his impressions of celebrities Al Pacino, Robin Williams, Bill Clinton, and David Letterman, among many others. His impressions and comedic talent even landed him a performance in front of Vice President Biden on C-SPAN (no guarantees you saw that one). Caliendo has made appearances on almost every late night talk show you can think of and frequently appeared on FOX NFL pre-game shows. Even better, the Hollywood Reporter has even called him, “a combination of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey.”
You may not know his name, but you should be thanking him. Brennan, while a stand-up comedian and actor, is most famous for his comedic writing. He began his writing career for the MTV dating show “Singled Out” and Nickelodeon’s sketch show, “All That.” But from there, he met with Dave Chappelle, writing both “Half Baked” and the much more famous (and well-liked) “Chappelle’s Show.” Brennan also co-created NBC’s Parks and Recreation. From his writing career came his stand-up career, which he has been more focused on recently.
They’re a small local Improv troop based in Northern Virginia that want nothing but to make you laugh. It’s free, they’re funny, what else could you want?
Be prepared for intensely hilarious comedy with Grant and Luenell, who are comedic forces by themselves, but together, who knows what will happen? Grant has gained popularity over the year through his television appearances on shows such as Reality Bites and HBO’s Def Comedy Jam. You may recognize Luenell as the prostitute from Borat, which incidentally was her breakout role. Since then, she has appeared in various films, music videos, and television shows such as Taken 2, That’s My Boy, and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.”

There isn’t much I can tell you that you don’t already know about Carlos Mencia. Even if you aren’t a huge fan of live comedy, you probably know his name. Known for his show, Mind of Mencia, he has also been part of numerous comedy tours and shows, such as 2002’s The Three Amigos with Freddy Soto and Pablo Francisco and Comedy Central Presents. Since 2007, Mencia has traveled overseas to the Persian Gulf during the holidays to perform for the troops.

If you love Saturday Night Live, then you definitely love Seth Meyers and his regular segment, the Weekend Update. Also, Meyers spoke at the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner, helping him gain even more popularity. He is also set to replace Jimmy Fallon next year as host for Late Night.
Crass host of the Comedy Central show Tosh.0 is coming to DC with even more of his harsh and self deprecating, yet hilarious, comedy. If you like his harsh criticisms of a plethora of Internet videos, then you’ll love his stand-up comedy. Though he has stirred up quite the controversy with some offensive comments during a stand-up routine, he has since apologized. Check out his past comedy tours on his website or on iTunes.

You may know him best for his clueless character, Tracy Jordan, on NBC’s popular show 30 Rock. But Morgan has been around longer than 30 Rock. He has appeared on numerous comedy shows, such as Def Comedy Jam, Martin, and Showtime at the Apollo.
