Spelling bees: they’re great! But they’re for kids. When you’re an adult, you realize fun times are better when intoxicated. Let’s be adult kids for an evening. Two teams comprised of DC’s funniest will be completely plastered or completely faded and they’ll be spelling words that YOU suggest. Will the drunks win? Will the legal DC activities win? Let’s find out together!
Audience, we’ll need word suggestions for the following rounds:
CHAIR ROUND (easy, common words)
THESAURUS ROUND (medium-strength common words)
SYZYGY ROUND (super hard words)

4 p.m. Saturday show added. Doors at 3, first-come-first-served seating. All other shows SOLD OUT> Lavell has been a comedy star for years, but the big man really hit the big time as the runner-up in the fifth edition of “Last Comic Standing.” Since then, he’s been a true national star, headlining clubs and theaters with his signature suits and side-splitting jokes. And he’s also making breakthroughs as an actor – fans of “Breaking Bad” know him as Saul Goodman’s bodyguard Huell. – (dcimprov.com)

This December, come home for the holidays with Summer Camp and meet her family and friends. See how this off the wall group celebrates the season. Featuring Summer Camp, Chris Farris, and Karl Marxxx along with their usual band of CRACK misfits.

Music for the night will be by dj Matt Bailer upstairs after the show!
The improv troupe Jive Turkey has been on the DC scene since 2008, performing sharp long-form improv in front of millions of screaming fans. (Millions might be a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea.) For this show, they’ll be performing in our 60-seat lounge showroom, and they’re bringing along a few of their favorite troupes to join in the fun. – (dcimprov.com)
Comedy at a bar named Shenanigans, why that’s like having Skydiving at a bar called Point Break. Free! Shows start at 8.
At 8 p.m., we’ll start bringing teams on stage to see what they came up with. After everyone has done their thing, we’ll award our favorite team a set of passes granting them admission to future shows at the Improv. – (dcimprov.com)
Andy Haynes was raised on salmon and caffeine, in the shadows of Mt. Rainier in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest. He now lives in Los Angeles, where he is a comedian, though he looks like he should be skippering a sailing regatta. With performances on Conan, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and the New Faces showcase at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, Andy is becoming a must see performer. – (imandyhaynes.com)

Time flies when you’re delivering puns. Has it really been a year since we had the first Power of Positive Drinking show? Have we really put together over 25 shows? Did we really just spend the last twelve months wrecking our sleeping patterns and increase our drinking habits? All of you out there who’ve supported us from the beginning know the answer to all of these questions and we look forward to seeing you at the place we got our start. Those of you who are new, join us at the Velvet Lounge to see some of the best comedians in DC help us celebrate an interesting year. There’ll be music and cheap, strong drink, too. Let’s see who gets the sloppiest first. (FB)

Since 2009, The Freestyle Funny Comedy Show (#FFCS) has been winning over audiences around the country, including over 50 universities, with its unique approach to the live comedy experience. The #FFCS consists of four of the nation’s fastest rising comedians, three of which are cast members of MTV2 Nick Cannon’s Wild ‘N Out show- Brian “B Daht” McLaughlin, Anthony “Chico” Bean, Darren “Big Baby” Brand, and Demar “Osama Bin Drankin” Rankin. Each #FFCS is tailored to fit its audience, so every show is distinctly different than its predecessor. A bunch of comics we like and one comic we don’t! – BYT
For most people, showbusiness is as exciting as it gets. But Finesse used to play football at the University of Miami (alongside Dwayne Johnson and Warren Sapp), so the spotlight has gotta seem like his natural environment. Finesse spun early success in the stand-up game into a four-year run on “Saturday Night Live.” He continues to appear on the big-time talk shows, on HBO (the new “Brothers in Atlanta”) and in national theater tours such as Shaq’s All-Star Comedy Jam. – (dcimprov.com)
Originally from New Jersey, Anthony DeVito is a NYC based comedian. He was one of the “New Faces” at the 2012 Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, has appeared on “This American Life,” made his television debut in 2014 on AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live and was the 2015 winner of Caroline’s March Madness. He’s also performed at the 2014 Boston Comedy Festival, 2014 Laugh Your Asheville Off, 2014 Limestone Comedy Fest, 2013 Bridgetown Comedy Festival and 2013 SF Sketchfest. In addition to stand-up, he’s appeared on TV Land’s The Jim Gaffigan Show, is a regular on Fox News Channel’s Red Eye, has been a featured guest on PIX 11’s Morning News, was on one of the final broadcasts of Sirius XM’s Ron and Fez, has been published in Timeout NY and is the former host of the NOC TV’s Say What?!. – (anthonydevitocomedy.com)
Josh Gondelman is a writer and comedian who incubated in Boston before moving to New York City. He takes topics from surprise parties to his experience teaching preschool and makes them all equally hilarious. Our belated Christmas gift to you is Erin. She got started in comedy by taking a class right here at the DC Improv, but we can’t take credit for her success — she’s got natural charm, likability and humor by the boatload. Erin was a semifinalist on “Last Comic Standing” in 2014, and she co-hosts the talk show “Exhale” on Magic Johnson’s ASPiRE network. She has also been on “Ellen” and a bunch of other TV shows. Cancel your Boxing Day party and we’ll see you at the club. – (dcimprov.com)
