LET’S GET THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS WITH SOME REAL CHEER

Dec 1st: DC Improv Open Mic @ DC Improv – FREE

The DC Improv Comedy Club is proud to host a local open mic night in our main showroom. With more than 20 years in the comedy business, The DC Improv has been a comedy home for young comics such as Jermaine Fowler, Seaton Smith, Rory Scovel, Erin Jackson, Mike Birbiglia and Dave Chappelle. Now to develop up-and-coming comics the Improv is, once again, opening its doors for an open mic night. But please note this is not an amateur hour. We are looking for comics who have been working the scene and have solidified their Five-Minutes of Funny. If that is you, you just might be what we are looking for! If you have longer than Five-Minutes you might find yourself on one of our feature spots for the open mic. Tickets for this event are free to the public. To be in the audience you can RSVP via the link or just show up the night of the show. This is not a ticketed event and is FREE to attend!

HOW TO SIGN UP:
If you are interested in consideration for performance time on our DC Improv Open Mic please email [email protected]. Web submissions only. Please no phone calls. (DC Improv)

Dec 5th & 6th: Improvised Shakespeare Company @ Artisphere – $22

Artisphere invites audiences to laugh their arse off with the renowned Improvised Shakespeare Company. Based on one audience suggestion (a title for a play that has yet to be written), The Improvised Shakespeare Co. creates a fully improvised play in Elizabethan style. Each of the players has brushed up on his “thee’s” and “thou’s” to bring you an evening of off-the-cuff comedy using the language and themes of William Shakespeare. Any hour could be filled with power struggles, star-crossed lovers, sprites, kings, queens, princesses, sword-play, rhyming couplets, asides, insults, persons in disguise and all that we’ve come to expect from the pen of the Great Bard. The night could reveal a tragedy, comedy, or history. Nothing is planned-out, rehearsed, or written. Each play is completely improvised, so each play is entirely new!

Founded in 2005, The Improvised Shakespeare Co. has been performing its critically-acclaimed show every Friday night at the world famous iO Theater in Chicago for over six years and continues to entertain audiences around the globe. It has been named Chicago’s best improv group by both the Chicago Reader and the Chicago Examiner and has received a New York Nightlife Award for “Best Comedic Performance by a Group.” The Improvised Shakespeare Co. was recently honored by the Chicago Improv Foundation as its “Ensemble of the Year.”

Due to the spontaneous nature of improv, not all subject matter is appropriate for all ages. (FB)

Dec 11th – 14th: Christian Finnegan @ DC Improv – $20

Christian can currently be seen on the TBS sitcom “Are We There Yet?” but is perhaps best known as one of the original cast members of VH1’s “Best Week Ever”, where he offered keen insight into the workings of popular culture and the ubiquity of celebrity genitalia. “Chappelle’s Show” fans will recognize him as ‘Chad’, the only white roommate in the infamous “Mad Real World” sketch. And pinko Communists know Christian from his regular appearances on MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann”. Christian Finnegan is a fixture (some might say ‘barnacle’) on Comedy Central, having starred in countless network interstitials, the shows “Premium Blend” and “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn” and in his own special, “Comedy  Central Presents: Christian Finnegan”. Christian was also the host of TV Land’s “Game Time” and has appeared on “The Today Show” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”. Christian’s first CD, “Two for Flinching”, was released by Comedy Central Records in 2006 and his super-duper DVD extravaganza, “Au Contraire!” was released by Warner Bros. Records in 2009. When he’s not on tour, Christian Finnegan lives in New York City with his lovely wife Kambri, a Chihuahua, a parakeet and a useless rabbit. He spends his free time plotting society’s downfall and googling the names of obscure hair metal bass players. (DC Improv)
