The Downton Abbey Season 4 trailer is officially out, guys, and apart from a brief stint of dialogue between Lady Mary and the Dowager Countess (something about choosing life or death, I don’t really know) in the beginning few seconds, it mostly contains a lot of dancin’ ‘n LOLin’ ‘n kissin’ ‘n cryin’ set to “Wolf’s Law” by The Joy Formidable. Now, I’m not saying this was a POOR choice in music, but I mean…kind of; if you’re going to do it up modern-day-tunes style, you may as well make it COUNT, right?! As such, I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands to improve the viewing experience for all of humanity! Here is the trailer, which I would like you to mute, and THEN I would like you to listen to a handful of other BETTER musical selections while watching. Ready? HERE WE GO:
Okay, so the first and most obvious choice for song improvement would have to be “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus:
I think it’s ALSO pretty obvious that Hilary Duff’s “Come Clean” should be a contender, because JUST LISTEN TO / LOOK AT IT:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPnCOySQkH4
But maybe you feel like those things don’t give the emotional roller coaster of a trailer its full intensity’s worth, in which case I think Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” would do nicely here:http://youtu.be/cpGbzYlnz7c?t=15s
Timing AND theme-wise, though, I’d have to say that the Step by Step theme song is PRETTY SPOT ON:
But oh my god, who am I kidding?! The ONLY song that would be fitting to emphasize the mother effing TRAGEDY of Matthew’s death (and the importance of adopting abused animals) is Sarah Mclachlan’s “Angel”; the person who created the trailer should be MEGA-ASHAMED for not having thought to use it in the first place:
(PS if you were extra-depressed after watching that, feel better in knowing that it’s only NINETEEN DAYS until the British premiere on September 22nd! Meaning the internet premiere! Meaning the our-laptops-probably premiere! #INTERNETATIONALWATERS)
