Mike WiLL Made-It “Whippin A Brick” Ft. Migos & Wiz Khalifa

Released last month and included on this week’s #MikeWiLLBeenTriLL mixtape, Migos and Wiz Khalifa aren’t baking Christmas cookies here. “Whippin a Brick” is about as ignorant, annoying, and addicting as Migos’ “Versace.” Dare you not to mumble the chorus to yourself. Khalifa is the showcase here in terms of rapping, mixing his laconic stoned flow perfectly into this crack ode.

Kurt Vile “Girl Called Alex”
“I think about them all the time.” Perfect music to torture yourself with while driving to or from home around Christmas, this track stands out on the most excellentWakin On A Pretty Daze album this year. “I wanna walk out into the night without being running away.” Most of us can find some way to feel Vile’s pain here.
Probot “Shake your Blood”
NoVA’s own Dave Grohl assembled some of his hard rock heroes 10 years ago for the Probot record and the gem is this track with Motorhead’s Lemmy. The video comes equipped with 66 ladies from Suicide Girls and surefire advice from a man who rocks so fucking hard they made an amazing documentary about him. “Love to see them women, babe, I ain’t in denial.” Truth bombs.

Panda Riot “Northern Automatic Music”
This week is best-of year lists. Panda Riot released one of my favorite records of 2013. For fans of My Bloody Valentine, Ride and jingle-jangle sounds. I will listen to this until all of my friends and family hate it. I will never hate this.
The Walking Sticks “Send the Night”
This bands 2013 EP was included on some local best-of lists. If they release an LP in 2014, it’s likely it’ll end up on some national best-of lists.

Alan Zilberman

Radiator Hospital “Our Song”

I have a friend who thinks this band put out the best, most personal power-pop album since “Pinkerton.” He might be right.
