It’s been a long week, you deserve some good music to coast yrself clean into a wonderful weekend. Enjoy:

Paula’s Picks

  • Booker T & The MG.s – “Comin’ Home Baby”
Booker T & the MGs pair nicely with a steaming mug of black coffee.

  • Kurt Vile – “Never Run Away”
    …Featuring his ADORABLE daughter:
  • Outkast – “Spaghetti Junction”
Because it’s always time to listen to Stankonia.
  • Thee Oh Sees – “Dead Energy”
I saw SF babes Thee Oh Sees three times at SXSW. No shame. I can’t get enough of their blackened garage rock.
  • GZA – “I Gotcha Back” (ft. RZA)
    GZA, for now and later:

Ross’s Picks

  • Daughter – “Perth (Bon Iver) x Ready For The Floor (Hot Chip)”
Some mashups just make sense when you hear about them. But others you have to just hear to see how they could possibly work. Such is the case with this mashup from Daughter, which takes Bon Iver’s Perth and mashes it up in a gorgeous way with Hot Chip’s “Ready For The Floor.” The two seamlessly work together in a way that just needs to be heard to be believed.

  • Vampire Weekend – “Diane Young”
While everyone is piling love onto the other Vampire Weekend song that came out this week, “Step,” I’d like to draw the attention of their other song “Diane Young.” It sounds like a “Cousins” B-side remix done by Anamanaguchi. As much as I enjoy “Diane Young,” there’s something to be said about the fast, short and sweet songs that Vamprie Weekend started off being known for. And if this is any indication of what “Modern Vampires of the City” will sounds like, holy hell, that album is going to be amazing.
  • Telekinesis – “Ghosts and Creatures”
I think my purpose in life might be to not shut up about Telekinesis until they become everyone’s favorite band. But how can you hear a song this great and not instantly love them?

Sepie’s Picks

  • Justin Timberlake – “That Girl”
JT is back and this song is killer. That is all.
  • Beach Fossils – “Careless”
I had the honor of seeing these guys a few weeks ago at DC9 and they were very solid. This album has been subject to mixed reviews but I stand by it and this tune.
  • Smith Westerns – “Varsity”
Smith Westerns are set to release their Soft Will LP in June 11 on Mom + Pop Music. This is our first taste of the band’s latest work.
  • Ty Segall – “Bikini Babes”
Sorry, guys, I am very predictable. I can’t stray away from the wrath of Ty.
