Last week we tackled the juniper, Christmas tree goodness that is gin and this week we are shifting gears and taking you on a whiskey tour of our fine city. Dump your bottle of Jack in the trash, and leave all the rest of your frat level plastic bottle of whiskey brands behind. We’re going to single-handedly up your whiskey game while saving you money at the same goddamn time. You’re welcome.

Jack Rose Dining Saloon

The crown jewel of D.C.’s whiskey scene, Jack Rose isn’t just the best whiskey bar in the entire city, it might be the best whiskey bar in the United States. Featuring a full menu of of Irish whiskies, domestic whiskies, and international whiskies, Jack Rose has all of the bases covered. If you’re feeling a little flakey, or you’re not sure exactly what you like, they also offer flights so you don’t make a fool out of yourself and order a $20 whiskey that you don’t like. Their half price happy hour runs between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday – Friday and is located in the first floor bar only.

Black Whiskey

This little 14th street gem is perfect if you want a breadth of options, but don’t want to deal with the crowds of Black Jack. Or if you want to spend you evening being a pool shark. Either or. The upstairs bar that focuses heavily on small scale American whiskeys, which means it’s perfect if you’re into exploring more local spirits. Swing by between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. during the week and sip on a delicious whiskey for a sweet, sweet deal.

Irish Whiskey Public House

If you’re looking to get rowdy and chow down on some wings while you pound your whiskey, look no further. The bar at Irish Whiskey Public House offers more than 50 brands of whiskey, beer, and whiskey flights, which means the options and combinations are almost endless. They ever offer a Irish Whiskey Club membership for all you die-hard whiskey fanatics / hardcore alcoholics. Stop by between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. every Monday through Friday to soak up their happy hour deals, which unfortunately do not include whiskey, but if you’re saving money on beer that just means you have more extra money to save on liquor.

Bourbon’s whiskey menu is long enough to satisfy even the pickets of people, but with a name like Bourbon, anything less would be a disservice. From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday – Friday, they’re serving up $5 whiskey’s of the day, $4 cocktails (get an Old Fashioned!) and $2 off their draft pints. The best part about Bourbon is that you can take your mouth on an adventure and sip on whiskey’s made as locally as Virginia or as internationally as Japan. It’s like taking boozy vacation except afterwards you have no memories and you kind of want to throw up.

Boundary Stone

We’ve all stumbled over to Boundary Stone drunk at some point in our lives, but this time, we’re encouraging you to head over sober and really enjoy their impressive whiskey list. If you manage to make it over between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday – Thursday you can score $5 wings and $3 Narragansett’s and as we all know, nothing pairs better with wings and beer than a good whiskey.
