Holy smokes it’s hot out. I don’t know about you but all my drinks are iced now. Here’s some frozen drinks to help you chill out and forget about the ever increasing humidity and heat.
This tiki themed bar on U Street is the place to sit back relax and get yourself a happy hour frozen Piña Colada. Now you no longer need to feel ashamed of your Hawaiian t-shirt as long as you stay on the property at all times. Happy hour is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily, so come get some 1950s rum, a big ol’ glass of booze, or if you feel like sharing get one of their cocktails for 2 or 3 or 4.
Come enjoy this summer’s happy hour $6 headliner “Flip Flops at Night” slushie, made with some bubbly, strawberry, brandy, lime, vanilla, and simple. Come in from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. after that D.C. grind and get turnt on “Beauty School Dropout” while you contemplate your unpaid internship. Do you, we don’t judge.
Ever wonder what a Moscow Mule tastes like in slushy form? Me neither but it’s in your head now and the curiosity will eat you alive. If vodka isn’t your thing then try the watermelon slushy with Beefeater Gin, watermelon, basil, grapefruit, lime. Come in Tuesdays where both slushy drinks are $8 or for regular happy hour Monday to Thursday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday/Saturday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
If you like generic dive bars with good drink deals, sports and food then swing by from 4 p.m to 8 p.m. for some keen drink deals including $7 frozen slushies. Ask your bartender for this season’s flavors, but I heard they used to have a frozen cider.
Come play pool, table tennis, or rent a bored game at this Glover Park spot. If you don’t mind that it’s usually riddled with AU students for Wednesdays happy hour deals, this is a pretty good (and cheap) mix between the Boardroom and a dive bar. Get some rail drinks for the low or dare to be different and get yourself a Piña Colada from the slushy machine. Happy hour is Monday to Friday 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday 4 to 2 a.m. and weekends from noon to 7 p.m.
