This weekend Serenata (inside La Cosecha at 1280 4th St. NE) is hosting Back to Black, a virtual charity cocktail pop-up with the intention of highlighting Black voices within the beverage industry through empowerment, mobilization, activation and creation. The event will benefit Black and Brown Founders, Stop Police Terror Project-DC, Black Lives Matter DC and the DC branch of the NAACP.
Participating talent includes Richard Sterling (Thamee), Kapri Robinson (Chocolate City’s Best), Frank Mills and Kith/Kin executive pastry chef Paola Velez. Also, Lorena Prada, a graphic artist and designer, is covering social media, and Serenata’s Beverage Director and partner, Andra (AJ) Johnson is leading up the whole project.

I’m over joyed to be creating for the @backtoblack_popupdc ! I haven’t created an original cocktail in a long time. I didn’t want this cocktail to not have meaning behind it so I put my heart into its creation! The Emeline cocktail has a story and to know it please follow @backtoblack_popupdc. Not only does the cocktail have a story but a purpose! Majority of the sales for this cocktail will be going towards @stoppoliceterrorprojectdc! ✊🏾✊🏾 Emeline: Lemon, Red Pea Honey, African Ginger, Brugal Anejo Rum, Float of Hibiscus infused Appleton Rum. 📸 : @ihephoto Graphic by @ljprada . . . #chocolatecitysbest #backtoblackpopup #stoppoliceterrorprojectdc #BrugalAnejo #Appleton #BlackBartender #WomanBartender
What comes with your order? For $20, pre-mixed, two-to-three-serving vessels are available. (Garnishes, too!) Additionally, each cocktail comes with backstory information about the bartender who created it. Pick-up for cocktails and Back to Black apparel will be available Saturday + Sunday (June 27th + 28th) from 1pm to 4pm.
