Alright friends, it’s Funny Human of the Week, so that means we’re back to talk about the work of another stand up comic who is “on the rise.” This week we’re meeting the extremely funny Ayo Edebiri, a standup comic and writer who has been featured as a Comedy Central “up next” comic, hosts the very good podcasts Iconography alongside Funny Human Olivia Craighead, and wrote for the hugely underrated NBC series Sunnyside. Let’s get into it!
Next up, we’ll check out Ayo’s appearance on the longrunning (now dearly departed) NYC comedy playground The Special Without Brett Davis, for their New Years Eve livestream last year.
More standup from Ayo! This was recorded at the ‘Sup Show at Caveat in New York.
A good Twitter feed is hard to come by in 2019. The site is a true nightmare to be on all day, every day, but we all do it, don’t we folks? Thank goodness for accounts like Ayo’s, which is full of killer goofs, spoofs, and riffs like these:
sandra bullock could do gangs of new york but daniel day lewis couldn't do miss congeniality

went up to a girl to compliment her because her STRONG TEETH tshirt made me laugh but after approaching I realized she just was hunched over and the shirt said STRONGER TOGETHER and I’m sad bc a STRONG TEETH shirt is superior in all aspects

In New York? You cry on the TRAIN.
In LA? You cry in your CAR. Or at least I WOULD, if I could DRIVE. But I CAN’T DRIVE. And crying in ubers feels WEIRD. So sometimes I cry in the STREET with sunglasses ON, hiding behind BUSHES bc it’s the best I can DO under the CIRCUMSTANCES.

might fuck around and get white and conventionally attractive and brand my mental breakdowns as monetizable content and create a cult of personality around me who will call it art to my face so much that I lose sense of reality

in LA, when a girl feels lost she takes an improv class
in new york, when a girl feels lost she considers grad school but ultimately starts a podcast
but in *both cities* when a girl is lost and HOT? she becomes a DJ.
I find this beautiful.

“U miss this dick?” The audacity. No. I missed another student loan payment and to be perfectly frank if I don’t get my financial situation together these dick appointments are about to become conjugal visits at a debtors’ prison

One last video before we part ways. Here we get to see Ayo flex her acting chops in a short film called Date Night!
