  • Monday, January 12 – catch the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers for free at Middle Earth Monday @ Black Cat.

  • Tuesday, January 13 – catch Boyhood at 7:30 p.m. for $2 for Oscar Watch night @ Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse. Read our review here.


  • Tuesday, January 13 – catch The Conspirator for free, 10 a.m. @ Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum. “Set in post-Civil War Washington, director Robert Redford’s critically acclaimed drama examines events occurring in the wake of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.”

  • Wednesday, January 14 – catch Moana with Sound for free, 7 p.m. @ National Archives. From their site: “With its beautiful, post-synchronized track (produced by Monica with help from filmmakers Jean Renoir and Richard Leacock), Moana with Sound premiered in Paris in 1981. Last year, Monica’s intricate update of her father’s film was digitally restored to new visual and aural brilliance by Bruce Posner and Finnish filmmaker Sami van Ingen (Flaherty’s great grandson).”

  • Thursday, January 15 – catch An Unusual Exhibition @ Goethe-Institut, 6:30 p.m. From their site: “In order to feed his family, a sculptor develops a unique speciality — monument tombstones featuring portraits of the departed. When it was released, the wry tone of Shengelaia’s provocative tragicomedy touched on sensitive topics, making awkward waves within the official Soviet establishment and ultimately identifying him as an independent voice.”

  • Friday, January 16 – Library of Congress, BYT and DCist present Streets of Fire @ Library of Congress, Madison Building, Pickford, Theater at 7 p.m., FREE.
