As you know, PRIDE IS THIS WEEK. Which means that our Flashback Official Pride Kick-Off Party, celebrating 40 years of Capital Pride is on Friday, June 12th. You probably have tickets already, but if you don’t – you should get them now. In the meantime – we asked all of our decades DJs to select some choice cuts from their set to share and get you excited to shake your thangs and things to this on Friday.
Hello BYT! Lemz here. Here’s a little snippet of some of the things you’ll be hearing during my set at FLASHBACK and why I’m in love with these tracks!
Kate Bush “Running Up That Hill”
YASSS KATE BUSH. This song is just everything. Those synths! That dancing! The message! “I was trying to say that, really, a man and a woman, can’t understand each other because we are a man and a woman. And if we could actually swap each other’s roles, if we could actually be in each other’s place for a while, I think we’d both be very surprised! [Laughs] And I think it would lead to a greater understanding.” You betta educate!
Pet Shop Boys “West End Girls”
A gay synth-pop classic, and admittedly a controversial choice for the 85-91 slot, since it was TECHNICALLY released in 1984. However it was reworked, rerecorded, and rereleased in the fall of 1985, and that’s the version that everyone knows and loves (and the one that’s clearly superior). That’s enough to claim it for myself, right?
Now I already know that I only covered two from 1985 but trust me, I’ve still got 6 other years of goodness up my sleeve. Happy Pride everybody and I’ll see you Friday!
