Forget about Valentine’s Day, President’s Day is the REAL holiday worth celebrating this weekend. Show your patriotism like a true Washingtonian – by trying one of these five brunches this Monday:

Some things just shouldn’t be messed with, and for some people brunch is one of those things. If that’s you, then Tico Restaurant has the basics covered – bagels, eggs, sausage and hash. They’ve also got plenty of hearty comfort food, including a bacon cheeseburger and crunchy, spicy fried chicken. If you’re feeling a little adventurous, the restaurant has some more elaborate options. But they also have grilled cheese. Isn’t that really all you need?
Where better to celebrate some of our founding fathers than Founding Farmers? (Yes, that was painful, but the pun had to be made). With a new location open in Tysons, this usually packed D.C. favorite has some extra seats to spare. Along with all the old favorites, the restaurant is serving some exciting new items, like the Spicy Fried Chicken & Jefferson Donut and the Diplomat Crepe Cake. It’s worth the trek on the Silver Line.
Let’s be real, what you’re really wondering about are the drinks. And here it is – Nage Bistro is offering three specialty cocktails named after famous mistresses of U.S. Presidents: Sally Hemings, Marilyn Monroe and Monica Lewinsky. Get drunk off of some of the most infamous scandals in Washington, paired with the restaurant’s modern American menu. The restaurant is vegetarian friendly with their Bean & Walnut Veggie Burger and a Crispy Falafel Pita. Meat lovers need not worry, Nage’s menu also has a Local Angus Burger and Chesapeake Benedict.
Where better to toast the presidents than from Capitol Hill? Ambar, which opened just last month, is an authentic Balkan restaurant. Their $35 bottomless brunch is a bit on the pricier end, but well worth it if you bring your appetite. The menu offers a vast variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, eggs (yes, there is an entire section for eggs), pastries, crepes and sweets (three separate things). Plus, your meal comes with unlimited mimosas and Bloody Marys – as long as everyone at the table orders the bottomless option.
Honor our country with a home grown meal from Copperwood Tavern, a farm-to-table restaurant that uses locally grown and produced ingredients. Classic American dishes are served in generous portions that will warm your belly and your soul. The restaurant also offers a slight twist on familiar comfort foods with dishes like the Buckwheat Banana Beer Pancakes and the Cajun Eggs Benedict. The stars of the show are their sandwiches, loaded with toppings and covered in melted cheese. If you’re feeling guilty, you can always get it on toasted whole grain bread.
