Mike Isabella is solidifying his total domination of Arlington (and our hearts) with the opening of Yona. Located in the same building as Pepita and Kapnos Taverna, the 50-seat Japanese and Korean noodle bar will be helmed by Isabella’s business partner, Chef Jonah Kim, formally of Pabu in Baltimore.

Yona is open today for lunch and will serve dinner starting December 4. Like most of Isabella’s projects, the goal is to walk a fine line between tradition and innovation. Chef Kim’s menu draws from both his culinary training in Japan, as well as his Korean heritage. The menu is full of crowd pleasers like his vegetarian ramen and Miso porky ramen, as well as crispy Brussels sprouts fermented in chili-yuzu sauce, Korean-style beef tartare, dry-fried chicken wings, and more.


There is also plenty of booze to be had for those of us who are more interested in a liquid lunch (or dinner). Taha Ismail, the beverage director, promises a highly curated cocktail and wine menu, as well as Japanese beers, sake, and whiskey.

Yona is located at 4000 Wilson Blvd., Suite C, Arlington Virginia and is taking reservations for lunch and dinner now. Their hours are currently 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but will extend to 5:00 p.m. December 4.
