Full disclosure: I host a monthly DJ night at the Looking Glass Lounge. I do this because I like the Looking Glass Lounge and enjoy spending time there.
Full disclosure: I announced my hiring as Managing Editor of Brightest Young Things while enjoying the excellent happy hour at DC Reynolds. Their happy hour is the best in Park View.
Full disclosure: I watched a Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers playoff game at Blue Banana. I watched it there because the Looking Glass Lounge had just one TV at the time and it was too crowded. DC Reynolds wasn’t open yet. I didn’t have a good time.
Walters Sports Bar, opening Friday at 3632 Georgia Ave NW, will be a neighborhood sports bar. No frills. Lots of TVs. Good, multiple happy hours.
The space is simple and will be good for watching games. Or hanging out on the back patio. Or when the Looking Glass Lounge is busy. Or when DC Reynolds is busy. It should fit in. It’s filling a need and will hopefully not turn into Blue Banana 2.
The happy hours at Walters, and the beer taps at Walters, are great, especially for a sports bar. From 4 to 7 p.m. everyday is $2 off selected wine and $4 DC Brau and $3 Powers. From 8 to 10 p.m. is the West Coast Happy Hour, featuring $4 West Coast Drafts. What’s a West Coast draft? Anything brewed on the west coast. The beer menu is color coded for east, central, west and mountain.
Walters Sports Bar, named after Washington Senator Hall of Famer Walter Perry Johnson, has potential. It’ll be up to the owners if it becomes the next Looking Glass or DC Reynolds or yet another Blue Banana.
