First Look: THALLY RESTAURANT

What’s cooler than a new neighborhood spot run by some of the top names in town? A neighborhood spot that pays homage not just to classic cuisine and cocktails but also its historical surroundings. Thally Restaurant, the new modern American concept from New Heights and Cork’s Ron Tanaka, Maple and Posto’s Sherman Outhuok, and Posto and Tosca’s Pablo Sacco, has both qualities in spades.

The new venture–roughly 2.5 years in the making–opens next to Seasonal Pantry tonight at 7:30 with a nod to Blagden Alley and Naylor Court, especially to Tally-Ho Stables, the 1883 stable house located behind the new restaurant. The walls are covered in vintage and thematic fonts from local buildings in the historic neighborhood, from the front seating area to the bathroom at the far end of the restaurant.

Geek Night Comedy @ DC Improv Lounge
$17
Geek Night Comedy is a stand-up comedy show created and run by geeks, for geeks. It includes a unique hybrid of both standup and improv. In its 5-year history, the group has run successful shows at the Virginia Beach & Richmond Funny Bones, here at the D.C. Improv, the Orlando Improv, and Awesome Con, their partners in this year's event! Past shows have received news coverage from local TV stations, as well as print coverage in The Virginian-Pilot, Inside Business and Sirius-XM's wildly popular "Monsters in the Morning." Charity is important to the Geek's Night, and their productions have raised thousands for ALS-TDI, the leading research group in the fight against ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), and will be doing so once again here at the DC Improv by giving away FREE passes to Awesome Con, along with other great items and collectables from local video game & comic book shops via our $1.00 raffle! A portion of door sales will also benefit this awesome non-profit.

Thally offers a large selection of craft ciders as well as draft beer (many of which will be local) and house-made sodas. If you’re a wine fan you can find 24 wines by the glass, some of which rotate weekly. If you’re looking for upscale American cuisine–Tanaka opened up cork, after all–you’ve come to the right place.

While the menu is what some might consider brief, the spread looks divine and robust nonetheless with simple, fresh food that should speak for itself. Roast duck caught our eye as did the pork with coffee dust.

Tanaka himself lives roughly six blocks away so he is tied to this neighborhood, wanting the new restaurant to be a local spot but also a destination for people across the city. We’re sure that it will be once they start offering lunch during the day and even sooner, when they begin lunch on the weekends. Just don’t expect brunch, we’re told.

Thally opens today, Tuesday, at 7:30pm and opens at 5:00pm regularly, Tuesday through Sunday.
