Depending on the time of day, D.C.’s movie scene is either rapidly dying, or going through quite the resurgence. We mourned the loss of the original West End Cinema (and some of us still are), but we’ve also celebrated the opening of the new West End Cinema, the Angelika, and the Atlantic Plumbing (which is so damn close to the office, it couldn’t be more perfect).

Still, something is changing, and while we’re not completely positive what that trajectory is, the opening of Suns Cinema makes us feel like we’re on the right path. After crowdfunding and many months of work, David Cabrera and Ryan Hunter Mitchell’s theater will open this Sunday with a screening of Moonwalk One, a largely forgotten documentary about Apollo 11. As if we weren’t already sold, these photos certainly make us feel like this is a place we’ll be giving all of our money.

Suns Cinema is located at 3107 Mount Pleasant St NW and will open this Sunday. Doors are at 5 p.m. and the show will begin at 6:30 p.m.
