Spinfire Custom Pizza & Salads opened their second Northern Virginia location in Rosslyn this week to the reception of a clamoring crowd in search of quick pizza and Pierre Garcon’s autograph. The Redskins player is owner of the pizza joint that boasts 90-second cook time in its 900 degree revolving oven. Much like &pizza, customers line up, pick their sauce, cheese and toppings for a personal pizza and it’s done in a couple minutes. They also offer calzones and salads that you can customize.
If you’re not feeling creative you can order one of the “Classic” options like Margherita, Prosciutto Arugula, or vegetarian. I highly recommend the Prosciutto Arugula classic pizza which comes with ricotta cheese and citrus vinaigrette. I was pleasantly surprised to find they stock their gelato case with Dolci Gelati flavors like stracciatella and bacio. Their beer selection, at about four bucks a bottle, isn’t bad either.
The pizza is solid and the new location will hopefully bring some action to the off-hours ghost town that is Rosslyn. They offer a good variety of toppings, including Sriracha sausage, anchovies, sauteed onions, dried cranberries, and artichokes. The interior is basic, gray and red with clean lines for a streamlined look. The layout of the restaurant is Chipotle-esque with plenty of seating, but its location, a block from the Rosslyn metro stop, is also super convenient for the bridge-and-tunneler’s evening commute. Pizzas are relatively inexpensive at $6.99 for a one-topping, and $8.99 for a classic or up to four toppings.
