Hakan Ilhan, the man who brought you Alba Osteria and Pizza Autentica is back, and this time he’s bringing Turkish food to Mt. Vernon Triangle with Ottoman Taverna. Focusing on traditional dishes and cooking methods, like the confit garlic hummus and the midye dolma (mussels stuffed with rice, pine nuts, and currants), this is a great place to check out if you’re bored with the other options in the area (and you probably are).
They’re only operating for dinner and happy hour right now, but they hope to add lunch and brunch soon. Happy hour is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m Monday through Friday (expect prices to hover between $3.50 to $6). Dinner hours run from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday and Monday, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday thru Thursday, and 4 p.m. to 12 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Ottoman Taverna is located at 425 I Street NW and opens next Monday. For reservations, call (202) 847-0395.
