Chef Aulie Bunyarataphan has long been a mainstay of the Georgetown waterfront. Her former concept, Bangkok Joe’s, inhabited the same space as her new restaurant, Mama Rouge, which opens for dinner service tonight at 4pm. Lunch service will begin next Monday, October 20, and brunch will start the following Saturday, October 25.
An homage to Chef Aulie’s mother whose name was Rouge, the new restaurant brings mise en place and French flavors to southeast Asian cuisine. It is the kind of place that allows for your pho to be paired with a crepes dessert, and A LOT of things come on croissants (we’re not complaining).
Speaking of croissants, one thing definitely worth going back for, the skirt steak banh mi sandwich is served on a croissant adorned with delicious salty-spicy pickled vegetables and even an avocado. At $10, this might not only be the best tasting sandwich you’ll find in Georgetown, it could also be the best value.
Being served alongside all that goodness? A seriously serious cocktail list (inspired by both Asian and French flavors), plus Vieux Care & Framboise Goose on tap and a wine list with A LOT of the bottles coming in at under $40.
Mama Rouge is open now for lunch, brunch and dinner. Details and reservations here: http://www.mamarouge.com/
