D.C.’s distilleries and breweries are slowly but surely upping their game. What started with 3 Stars, Atlas, and Right Proper continues with Ivy Room, the newest tasting room / bar from Republic Restoratives. Located right on that stretch of New York Avenue that seems to be blowing up for reasons completely unknown to me (it’s the worst place in the world to get to! You have to take at least 12 different bus / metro combos!), Ivy Room strikes the perfect balance between swanky and comfortable.
The space is small, but manages to make up for it with tall ceilings and large windows. The furniture is sleek and minimalist, and the green plants hanging all over the place add a little life and cut through the industrial feel. Yet, the main draw is the beautiful bar. Made up of beautiful reclaimed wood, the warm toned blocks work as makeshift shelves. I want one in my own home and I want it right now.
Right now they’re only serving their Civic Vodka, but the bar is hitting all of the classics, from Moscow Mules to Vodka Tonics. Everything is simple and homemade. If you want to support made in D.C. liquor while sitting in a space that could double as your favorite neighborhood bar, Ivy Room is here for you.
