Nevermind cupcakes. What a busy, on-the-go person needs is a cake on a stick. Yael Krigman, who is the quintessential DC second careerer (lawyer-turned-baker) knows a thing or two about being busy and on-the-go. So, Baked By Yael Cakepoppery was born, and after a few years of word-of-mouth success (and Best of Washingtonian award on top), there is a brick-and-mortar store for everyone to enjoy her cakepops, perfectly located across the street from the National Zoo at 3000 Connecticutt Ave.

The wonka-meets-Dylan’s-Candy Bar like interiors offer some surprises (around every corner):  in addition to cakepops, Baked by Yael is known for its hand-rolled and boiled bagels, delicious and hard-to-find black & white cookies and rugelach, and scrumptious raspberry bars and chocolate chip bars, all baked on site in a visible-to-customers kitchen.

Plus, good news for the gluten-free and nut allergy stricken out there: he bakery is completely nut-free and also offers glutenless and vegan options. Plus, with hot weather officially here: now serving also Italian Ice and Sorbet.
