The address for the DC outpost of the popular Manhattan tapas bar BOQUERIA says 1837 M Street NW but don’t walk into the Chipotle on the M side of corner that carries that number. Instead-look left and walk up the stairs into a much more elegant and relaxed space chef Marc Vidal is bringing to the Dupont area, starting tonight.

The small plates trend has been reigning supreme in our city for as far as our food team can remember but the newest addition to this young professional outing staple is refreshingly back-to-basics, and focuses on good, simple food and drink done well, , in a setting where everyone can feel comfortable. The decor is well lit, with plenty of light and natural wood and very comfortable chairs while the menus are plastered on black-boards above a 25 person bar which is bound to become a fast after-work favorite for the Dupont neighborhood.

Chef Vidal will be working with Chef de Cuisine Brian Murphy (formerly seen manning the Policy kitchen) to execute his Catalan inspired menu which features tapas favorites like croquetas, dates wrapped in bacon (with a little almond crunch inside), spring paellas

and a nice selection of vegetarian options too like flatbreads with wild mushrooms or a golden raisin and chickpea laced warm spinach.

All the wines on offer are Spanish, and there are, naturally, sangrias on offer, including their Cherry Blossom festival special which, we were pretty jazzed to find out, is a rosé spiked with bourbon-soaked cherries…

…while the beer list will include both Spanish selections and local favorites like DC Brau and Port City on tap.

For the time being the restaurant will be open just for dinner, but keep an eye out for lunch and brunch menus coming your way soon, plus we were promised an outdoor patio in a matter of weeks. Which is always nice.
