Despite its location outside the District, the new Anthom store drew a large crowd of D.C.’s style setters for its preview last week. A cleansing 30-minute drive with warm summer night air relaxed us on the ride there, getting us in the perfect mindset for the stylish but down-to-earth opening.
After a successful first year of online retail, the popular purveyor of small-run emerging designers opened their first brick and mortar location in the Mosaic District in Merrifield. The modernist space showed the care and attention to detail common to all Anthom projects, with an interior designed and hand built by co-founder Marshall Johnson, with styling and buying by Carla Cabrera and Ashley Turchin. Custom designed copper hangers elevated display to a wonderfully thoughtful level, and their collection was perfectly merchandised to showcase the diverse types of designers they represent.
We encourage you to visit the founders in their store and shop; the ability to support creative entrepreneurs and designers through retail is an empowering way for the District to grow its creative class. It’s one thing to talk about style, but the Anthom team is living it.
Check them out at 2910 District Ave, Merrifield, VA, where price points range from accessible to aspirational. You can also follow them online at ShopAnthom.com.
