With just 2o days left until opening day, beverage coordinator Kris Carr gave us a preview of the fun drinks at The Walrus Oyster & Ale House, a new addition to the National Harbor. The cocktails are themed accordingly to Lewis Carroll’s poem, “The Walrus and the Carpenter.” Though the restaurant isn’t finished just yet, we couldn’t wait to check out the cocktail menu. These drinks are made in bulk with fresh ingredients to feed you liquor faster without sacrificing taste or quality.
When Pigs Fly, a refreshing take on the traditional Piña Colada, packs a dangerous punch in a thirst-quenching concoction of Brugal Anejo Rum and Fernet Branca with pineapple juice, coconut milk, and bitters. Each drink Kris creates plays on the poem about the witty oyster-shucking walrus and carpenter. The restaurant’s theme inspired Kris to create big, fun, and festive drinks that depict the excitement that Alice finds through the looking glass. The menu will feature local shore-inspired food that you can wash down with an array of beverages from frozen drinks to oyster shooters to beer cocktails, highballs, and many more craft drinks. Here are some of the festive options you’ll be able to try on opening day.
A thirst quenching frozen cocktail with Shellback Silver Rum, homemade mint syrup, fresh squeezed watermelon and lime juice. Add a 10 oz pony sized Pacifico, a dark rum floater, a 151 proof rum floater, or fully dress your cocktail with all three in the 52 oz Walrus Bowl.
