The Charles family, the heart of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Piano Lesson, live in 1930-era Pittsburgh in a world not designed for them. When the Charles siblings inherit a piano once traded for an enslaved ancestor, the family is faced with a beautiful object belying an ugly truth. Through this exclusive run of The Piano Lesson, Sitar alumni, current students, and emerging theater professionals are stepping out to show their talents, showcase the triumph of the human spirit, and express the urgency of equality.
