Event Details
As part of the Kennedy Center’s celebration of Merce Cunningham’s extensive legacy, experience one of his collaborations in visual art with Andy Warhol’s immersive “Silver Clouds,” which Cunningham incorporated into the iconic 1968 work RainForest. Visitors will be able to view and play with the silver clouds and watch video of a performance of RainForest. This is the perfect activity to check out on your way to performances of Beach Birds and BIPED, or any of the other Merce Cunningham at 100 activities.
About “Silver Clouds”
Andy Warhol’s “Silver Clouds” was a collaborative work with engineer Billy Klüver created after Warhol asked Klüver to help him craft a “floating light bulb.” Made of helium and oxygen-filled metalized plastic film, the “Silver Clouds” combine art and technology to fashion an interactive, installation work where the viewer becomes part of the exhibit.
Part of Merce Cunningham at 100
The Kennedy Center joins the global centennial celebration of Merce Cunningham, featuring multiple events between October 2-5, 2019. The centerpiece is a performance by Compagnie CNDC-Angers, led by Cunningham disciple Robert Swinston; alongside additional music performances, film screenings, and free activities exploring the Cunningham legacy.
