The 2015 Emmy nominations were announced this morning. They’re awful. Let’s break it down.
OUTSTANDING DRAMA
Better Call Saul
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
Homeland
House of Cards
Mad Men
Orange Is the New Black
Downton Abbey is a soap opera with a bigger budget. House of Cards is a comedy. Mad Men was nominated for a half season. Hannibal should be included. And what about Justified? And The Americans? This is awful.
OUTSTANDING ACTOR IN A DRAMA
Kyle Chandler, Bloodline
Jeff Daniels, The Newsroom
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul
Liev Schreiber, Ray Donovan
Kevin Spacey, House of Cards
Jeff Daniels LEADS A SING-A-LONG AT A WAKE in the finale of The Newsroom. THAT SHOW IS A COMEDY! Kevin Spacey is doing a bit. House of Cards is a comedy. Mads Mikkelsen should be nominated for the title role in Hannibal and Hugh Dancy should be nominated for playing Will Graham in Hannibal and Jon Hamm should win. And what about Justified? This is awful.
OUTSTANDING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA
Claire Danes, Homeland
Viola Davis, How to Get Away With Murder
Taraji P. Henson, Empire
Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Robin Wright, House of Cards
Julianna Margulies won this last year and she should win again and she’s not even in Hannibal! This is awful. At least there’s the potential for a not white person to win.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA
Joanne Froggatt, Downton Abbey
Lena Headey, Game of Thrones
Emilia Clarke, Game of Thrones
Christina Hendricks, Mad Men
Uzo Aduba, Orange Is the New Black
Christine Baranski, The Good Wife
Uzo Aduba would make a great addition to the cast of Hannibal.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA
Jonathan Banks, Better Call Saul
Ben Mendelsohn, Bloodline
Jim Carter, Downton Abbey
Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones
Michael Kelly, House of Cards
Alan Cumming, The Good Wife
You know what’s hard to do? Watch your wife die from cancer while trying to not be eaten by a serial killer/cannibal! Laurence Fishburne should be nominated. This is awful.
OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA
Diana Rigg, Game of Thrones
Rachel Brosnahan, House of Cards
Cicely Tyson, How to Get Away With Murder
Allison Janney, Masters of Sex
Khandi Alexander, Scandal
Margo Martindale, The Americans
Margo Martindale is great! The Americans is great! That should also be nominated for Outstanding Drama! These awards are awful!
OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA
Alan Alda, The Blacklist
Michael J Fox, The Good Wife
F. Murray Abraham, Homeland
Reg E. Cathey, House of Cards
Beau Bridges, Masters of Sex
Pablo Schreiber, Orange Is the New Black
Michael J Fox is great in The Good Wife. It’s the second best drama on network television. HANNIBAL IS THE BEST!
Now that I think about it, Hannibal wasn’t even eligible for 2015 Emmy’s because NBC pushed it back to the summer. Oh well. On to comedy!
OUTSTANDING COMEDY
Louie
Modern Family
Parks and Recreation
Silicon Valley
Transparent
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Veep
This is cool. No Big Bang Theory. Parks and Rec and Silicon Valley and Veep all deserve this and it’d be cool if Louie or Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt won and it’d be even cooler of Louis CK addressed all those being a creep to female comic allegations. Oh, and The Last Man On Earth is great!
OUTSTANDING ACTOR IN A COMEDY
Anthony Anderson, black-ish
Louis C.K., Louie
Don Cheadle, House of Lies
Will Forte, Last Man on Earth
Matt LeBlanc, Episodes
William H. Macy, Shameless
Jeffrey Tambor, Transparent
Oh, The Last Man on Earth was nominated here! Awesome!
OUTSTANDING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Lisa Kudrow, The Comeback
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation
Amy Schumer, Inside Amy Schumer
Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie
Edie Falco is fantastic in Nurse Jackie but that’s a drama. I really hope Poehler wins and I really hope it’s not all white women nominated in 2016.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY
Niecy Nash, Getting On
Julie Bowen, Modern Family
Allison Janney, Mom
Kate McKinnon, Saturday Night Live
Mayim Bialik, The Big Bang Theory
Gaby Hoffmann, Transparent
Jane Krakowski, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Anna Chlumsky, Veep
Anna Chlumsky is so good in Veep. You should watch Veep. You’ll most likely enjoy it. I bet Chlumsky would be good in Hannibal.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY
Andre Braugher, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Adam Driver, Girls
Keegan-Michael Key, Key & Peele
Ty Burrell, Modern Family
Tituss Burgess, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Tony Hale, Veep
How do you nominate Key but not Peele?
OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY
Gaby Hoffmann, Girls
Pamela Adlon, Louie
Elizabeth Banks, Modern Family
Joan Cusack, Shameless
Christine Baranski, The Big Bang Theory
Tina Fey, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Uzo Aduba won this award last year for OITNB. HOW IS IT A COMEDY ONE YEAR AND A DRAMA THE NEXT! I think she’d be great in Hannibal.
OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY
Mel Brooks, The Comedians
Paul Giamatti, Inside Amy Schumer
Bill Hader, Saturday Night Live
Louis C.K., Saturday Night Live
Bradley Whitford, Transparent
Jon Hamm, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Hamm should go home with two awards. And Louis C.K. should at least acknowledge those allegations.
OUTSTANDING REALITY SHOW HOST
Tom Bergeron, DWTS
Jane Lynch, Hollywood Game Night
Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, Project Runway
Cat Deeley, SYTYCD
Anthony Bourdain, The Taste
Tim Gunn for every award! He seems like a nice man!
OUTSTANDING REALITY SHOW COMPETITION
The Amazing Race
Dancing With the Stars
Project Runway
So You Think You Can Dance
Top Chef
The Voice
Project Runway because Tim Gunn seems like a nice man! RuPaul’s Drag Race should be nominated. This is awful.
