Welcome to BYT’s newest “hot damn, how could I live without this” column, Eating Out. We’ll be highlighting one food or booze special event every night of the week. From the best happy hours in the city to the uber expensive $500 per person tasting menus, there is something good to eat or drink every single night in this city and we want to help you find it. And yes, we get the joke.
Reward yourself for making it through this terrible cloudy rainy day with a beer and something spicy and warm. During happy hour, Thip Kao has $3 Lao beers and a ton of unique (and cheap) eats. Go for the chicken wings if you want something familiar or the fried pig ears if you want to step out of your comfort zone.
We’ll take any opportunity to get drunk at the zoo. Not only is it filled with adorable furry, fluffy and scaly animals, but there’s also a merry-go-round. Done deal. Head on over for the zoo’s wine festival (aptly called Zoo Uncorked) and get hyped to sip on wine from all over the area / country / world. There will also be plenty of restaurants and food trucks on hand, if you’re looking for a bite to eat and the Small Mammal House, Reptile Discovery Center and the Great Cats exhibit will be open late. If you love wine and animals, we can’t imagine a better event.
Stop by Port City Brewing Co. in Alexandria to be one of the first people to try their new Bamberg-style smoked Märzen lager. Grab a bite from the Borinquen Lunch Box food truck, take a tour of the brewery, participate in a public tasting, or just chill in the beer garden and listen to some live music.
What’s better than drinking on a rooftop? Drinking in a rooftop garden! Grab a ticket and enjoy the view with a street-food inspired menu from Chef Colin McClimans (using produce grown right where you’re standing) and brand new fall beer pairings from Bell’s Brewery.
This Sunday, Saint-Ex, District Distilling Co., and Garden District duke it out in a battle for total (14th Street) burger supremacy. Your ticket gets you three burger tickets and a starter taste from Right Proper Brewing Company, who’ll be taking over several taps at the bar.
Your week looks delicious.
