Welcome to BYT’s newest “hot damn, how could I live without this” column, Eating Out. We’ll be highlighting one food or booze special event every night of the week. From the best happy hours in the city to the uber expensive $500 per person tasting menus, there is something good to eat or drink every single night in this city and we want to help you find it. And yes, we do get the joke.
It’s National Taco Day. You can go out and get a taco anywhere at anytime, but this Alfie’s pop up is one night only. At this point there are so many things going on at the Alfie’s space that I don’t quite know whats happening, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t all delicious. Alfie’s and Redeye menus are teaming up for one night to celebrate the flavors of Northern Thailand. Expect a six course meal with sherry parings from Lustau Bodega in Spain. If you’re looking for something a little extra, Carlie Steiner, of Stir Bartending Co., will be making cocktails at the bar all night. Tickets are $75 (not including tax / Eventbrite fees), but there will also be an a la carte menu for walkins. If you miss the old Alfie’s, you probably shouldn’t miss this.
Luke’s Coffee Takeover @ Qualia
I have maybe seen three episodes of Gilmore Girls, so I don’t really understand the excitement, but everyone else I know is freaking the hell out about this news. A couple different coffee shops around the district are going to transform themselves into Luke’s Coffee, the coffee shop from the show. The real draw here is that they’re going to be giving away 250 cups of free coffee. Go for the free coffee, stay if you like the show.
Eat the Rich is always coming up with new a exciting ways to give you cheap oysters and for that, I love them. This week they’re holding Oystoberfest, and yes, it’s exactly what you think it is. A loving marriage between delicious sea snot and beer, ETR will be shucking $1 Barcat oysters, serving up DC Brau specials, and doling out traditional German Octoberfest food. For the more daring ones, there will be an oyster eating contest with prizes ranging from a private DC Brau tour to a $100 ETR gift card.
Pop-Up Grilled Cheese Night @ Mount Pleasant
If you’re looking for something a little more homey than oysters, look no further than this underground pop-up grilled cheese night. Taking place in an apartment in Mount Pleasant, there will be five different kinds of grilled cheese, three different specialty cocktails, and a salad to make you feel a little less like you’re going to die from all the butter. Tickets are $50.
Alright, enough with the food, it’s time to get boozy. Join Brooklyn Brewery at their Beer Mansion festival at Blind Whino. They’re promising it will be the weirdest beer festival you’ll ever go to and I have every reason to believe them. There will be booze from 3 Stars, DC Brau, and Right Proper. Food by Peruvian Brothers Food Truck, and odditees from Fantom Comics. Tickets are only $20.
