Fashion News

IT’S FASHION MONTH! Next stop: MILAN (which started yesterday), so far we all freaked out over the fantastic fantasy that is Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs turned Kendall Jenner into a weird crow-like creature (winter is coming y’all), and no one saw Zoolander 2– despite the fashion world collectively trying to shove down everyone’s throats that they get the joke and can laugh at themselves (prime example: Vogue’s painfully unfunny 73 Questions with Derek Zoolander.)

Also out of London’s AW16 shows- if you haven’t watched Ashish’s show (or seen the billions and billions of photos on social mediaWATCH IT NOW – not only did it almost single-handedly make the designer relevant, it’s one of the coolest shows I’ve seen in forever. Super original, a little ridiculous, and in its essence, an explosion of color and glitter. What more could you ask for?

Speaking of Fashion Weeks- D.C.’s very own Indie Fashion Week starts off next Monday, February 29th and runs until March 6th. This year’s theme is Indie 500 (which took me a very long time to get- I kept thinking they were just hosting race car viewing parties). With workshops, runway shows, and more, I feel like if you have time- go! Support local designers, the D.C. fashion world needs all the help we can get. Schedule and more info here.

Oh and Kate Middleton shopped at Lululemon and everyone lost their minds. I assume she did it for the same reason we all shop at Lululemon–  to get that yoga studio status symbol, and infinitely re-usable, tote bag.

In more D.C. fashion news, D.C. Fashion Week is happening until the 28th. Still can’t figure out if this a thing or not.

Speaking of FASHION WEEK- we had our very own MEN’S STYLEFILE CORESPONDENT (and by that we mean we took advantage of the fact that he was already there) check out  MEN’S FASHION WEEK in our new column- From the #FROW

From the #Frow: Men’s Fashion Week
Words and photo by Diego Downtown
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend the second New York Fashion Week: Men’s. I was able to get a front row seat into some great runway shows from some of the most sought after designers, including one local menswear designer from Washington, DC. Needless to say, statement coats, ponchos, and turtlenecks will definitely be a huge trend come fall.  My big takeaways from the shows were to play with oversized and fitted pieces while letting your accessories carry the conversation. Looking forward to the next New York Fashion Week: Men’s in July!

And that’s it for this week! Stay stylish D.C.!
