In case you missed us last time, we feature the news, events, people, and stores that are putting STYLE back into this buttoned-up city. Also, check out our 2015 Style Round Up – for all the best in D.C. style from the most stylish people in town.
Tunes We’re Jamming To This Week
And by this week I mean the past 6 months- I haven’t been able to get Paces’ remix of Hermitude’s “The Buzz” out of my head.
April 22nd: WONDER At Night After Hours
BYT’s very own WONDER At Night may or may not inspire some eclectic fashion choices. So far the staff’s outfits range from a possible Beetlejuice-esque costume to a Diane VonFurstenburg jumpsuit. Either way, stay tuned for next week when we
judge check out, all the fashion YES’s. In the meantime check out the incredibly dapper gentlemen and ladies that attended our Irving Penn After Hours.
April 29th + 30th: Kit Pop Up
Need more office clothes? (this answer is ALWAYS yes!). Cool girl/ business casual clothing company Kit is opening a pop-up shop at Hysteria in Old Town, Alexandria.
11am- 6pm : 125 S Fairfax St, Alexandria, VA 22314
It’s ALMOST MET GALA TIME! This year’s “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” promises to be amazing. We got ready for the first Monday in May by (how else?) checking out the new documentary First Monday in May (in theatres now). The film follows the creation of the 2015 Met/ Costume Institute’s exhibition and gala “China: Through the Looking Glass” which DOMINATED. Go see the movie- if nothing else for the incredible dresses and Anna Wintour yelling at people.
In other examples of fashion documentaries crushing our hopes and dreams,we were all crushed when Raf Simons left Dior. Especially after Dior and I had spent 90 minutes ESSENTIALLY MAKING IT SEEM LIKE RAF WAS THE SECOND COMING OF CHRISTIAN DIOR and we all felt like he was our cool fashion designer best friend. Anyways, Raf left Dior, but might be back as Creative Director for Calvin Klein. 100 points if he gets rid of the Justin Bieber ads.
April 29th – May 1st: Georgetown French Market
Baguette? Yes, that’s the extent of my French. However, this is still one of my favorite events of the year. Among more pan au chocolat (oh man I lied guys) than you can shake your beret at is some of the best consignment shopping in town. Because it’s Georgetown expect to hard to find vintage designer threads (I saw the most amazing Chanel cape last year that I DID NOT BUY, regretfully). Check out how much fun it was last year.
April 29 & 30: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m, May 1: Noon – 5 p.m. : Wisconsin Ave, Georgetown
Speaking of consignment shopping, everyone’s favorite place to grab cheap (ish) big name handbags 2nd Time Around is opening a new location in Georgetown. If you really, really, need a Birkin handbag, this is the place to grab it.
3109 M St NW, Washington, DC 20007
ICYMI: Local brands took center stage at last week’s Hecht Warehouse fashion show. In related news, Ivy City is still awful to get to (tuck and roll out of your Lyft on New York Avenue! Just do it!)
Boutique of the Week: Treasury
Since this week has kind of inadvertently had a vintage/consignment vibe I thought I’d share my absolute FAVORITE vintage store in town. Due to some frantic googling it seems that they’ve moved from their 14th street location (which is great for my budget, but also so, so, sad) and are now in AdMo. Wherever they are this place is (sorry…) a true TREASURE! Their insanely awesome, curated collection has finds that are from the 1920s and probably even earlier. 1920s jewelry is just the best, and their prices are also not insane so that’s cool.
NEW LOCATION: 2104 18th St NW Washington, DC
Cool D.C. Instagrammer of the Week: District of Chic
Always so effortlessly put together, District of Chic embodies D.C.’s tendency to embrace office wear, HOWEVER her style is all in “things I wish I was put together enough to wear to the office” territory. It’s a great instagram to scroll through before heading to Zara to go blazer shopping, or whatever normal people do after work on weekdays. Also, she ROCKED pregnancy fashion, which I feel like deserves its own medal somehow.
And that’s it for this week! Stay stylish D.C.!
