Do you like drinking heavily and becoming so competitive that you make your friends (and strangers) uncomfortable? Do you have a lot of specific and arcane knowledge floating around your head? Does the idea of winning light beer branded swag excite you? Then you have no choice but to get yourself over to the closest bar for some trivia (or a pub quiz if you’re in an Irish joint)!
Any of the below should suit you just fine, but remember, we live in a city full of nerds. The competition is sure to be fierce, but the prizes just might make everything worth it.
Church Hall – 7:00 p.m., Brought to you by the folks behind Franklin Hall, this Georgetown beer bar has a lot in common with its 14th Street sibling. Packed with long tables (and an equally as long beer list), if you’re team can rally, you might just walk away with $5000 in cash.
Hen Quarter -7:00 p.m., Want to show off your trivia knowledge and eat healthy? Hen Quarter is the place to go to fulfill the two most important food groups. Chicken and whiskey.
Fado Irish Pub – 7:00 p.m., Hosted by the folks behind Geeks Who Drink, this is the perfect place to get your Irish pub fix.
Franklin Hall – 7:00 p.m., Franklin Hall is one of your best bets if you’re looking for good beer, a central-ish location and a lot of space. The bar has huge group tables that allow you to get closer to your enemies…
Madhatter – 7:00 p.m., Madhatter uses Trivia King, which electronically archives your team’s scores, not only for that night, but for the entire trivia season. Get ready to go head to head with a group of competitive regulars.
Breadsoda – 7:30 p.m., Trivi and chili dogs are the perfect combination. $4-$5 DC Brau drafts don’t hurt either.
The Pub & The People – 7:30 p.m., This killer local bar is a great spot if you’re looking to get competitive with your neighbors.
Bar Roubaix – 7:30 p.m., Clip clop over with all your best cycling friends and get prepared for the Tour de France of trivia. Also, there’s beer!
Bier Baron – 7:30 p.m., Bier Baron has trivia on both Monday and Wednesday, so make your way over to show off your skills and fight for the chance to win $5000. Damn that’s a lot of money.
Chatter – 7:30 p.m., Remember Chads? Or Chadwicks as the sign always used to say? They’ve re-branded (or whatever) and now they’re Chatter. If you’re trying to get your Maryland friends to come out and play, this might be your best option.
The Wonderland Ballroom – 7:30 to 11:00pm, Monday Night Trivia Fight is no laughing matter. If you want a serious competition then head over here. First place wins $100 off your team’s bar tab, second place wins gets $15 off their bar tab, and third gets $10 off. Using your mind to win free booze is the best kind of award.
Flanagan’s Harp and Fiddle – 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Flanagan’s is perfect if you like your trivia with a little strategy. They play Stump! Trivia which forces teams to wager points and compete in bonus rounds.
Agua 301 – 8:00 p.m., Head on over to the Navy Yard and fill your body with mezcal and guacamole, the most important of brain food.
Lost & Found – 8:00 p.m., Unlike many trivia nights, Lost & Found allows you to bring your own food, so cook up something good and head on over.
Tonic – 8:30 p.m., Grab a group of 2-8 friends (depending on how popular your are) for some general trivia. First place wins a $50 tonic gift card. Trivia specials include $3 Miller High Life’s, $4 tater tots, $6 beer cheese nachos, and $.75 wings. Plus, if you like their Facebook page, you’ll get a hint about that night’s trivia. Food and drink specials start at 7:30 p.m.
Moreland’s Tavern – 7:00 p.m., Grab a bite to eat, a pint of beer and settle in for a good old fashioned trivia night. If you want something lowkey and a little more neighborhood-y, this is the spot for you.
Saint-Ex – 7:00 p.m., There are so many good things about this trivia night. 1. Happy hour is extended until 8 p.m. 2. Winning team gets $50 off their bar tab and 3. Second place gets $25 off. Start drinking.
Penn Social – 7:00 p.m., If you’re looking for a rowdy and packed trivia spot, this is the place. Penn Social averages around 75 players and trivia often takes up the entire main floor. Sneak downstairs to the arcade games to blow off some steam between rounds.
The Queen Vic – 7:30 p.m., Every week (starting September 18th and ending December 4th) the entire second floor is cleared out and taken over by Queen Vic’s intense pub quiz. The quiz lasts 12 weeks and the cumulative scores are posted on Facebook. Weekly prizes are Queen Vic gift cards, but as soon as a team reaches 50 points they can start winning special loyalty prizes. In the past, prizes have ranged from two round trip tickets to Dublin or London, a BeerTender with three kegs, and Newcastle / Jameson swag bags. Oh, and runners up get delicious Jameson shots.
Boundary Stone – 7:30 p.m., One of our favorite bars in Bloomingdale, Boundary Stone is a great place to go in general, but they’re also here to satisfy all of your trivia needs. Order a burger, some fried pickle chips and get to work.
Maddy’s Tap Room – 7:30 p.m., Located right down town where all you losers probably work (I mean… same), Maddy’s is a good place to stop if you’re looking to challenge your coworkers to some trivia whether it’s a Tuesday or a Thursday night. Just don’t do something that would get you fired.
Froggy Bottom Pub – 7:30 p.m., Mix up your trivia night eats with some delicious Vietnamese food. Just don’t over eat, you don’t want to fall asleep in the middle of a round.
HalfSmoke – 7:30 p.m., Shaw’s kind of casual / kind of not spot is diving headfirst into the trivia spirit. Order one of those insane milkshakes and get to work. If you don’t leave with a little booze buzz, you’ll definitely have a sugar high.
Lou’s City Bar – 7:30 p.m., While Acre 121 is closed up for renovations, we highly recommend you head over to Lou’s. Show up early to secure your spot and a burger from the menu.
Nanny O’Briens – 7:30 p.m., Nanny O’Briens uses Trivia King, which electronically archives your team’s scores, not only for that night, but for the entire trivia season. First place receives a $40 bar tab and second place receives a $20 bar tab. Make sure to show up earl, Nanny O’Briens boasts a large regular crowd.
Public Bar – 7:30 p.m., Head on over for an awesome night hosted by District Trivia. Prizes include a $60 gift card for first place and a $40 gift card for second place. Hopefully that covers your beer tab.
Dew Drop Inn – 8:00 p.m., If you want to break away from the usual rote trivia questions, come on over to Dew Drop. Their six hosts write all of their own questions and rotate every week, bringing their own particular interests and personality to the table. Just be sure to get their early, happy hour ends right before trivia starts.
The Big Board – 8:00 p.m., If you’re scientifically minded (or think you are after a couple shots of rail whiskey) head on over to The Big Board for a night of old school science challenges. Expect middle school-esque science competitions, classic trivia and tacos, but mostly expect the unexpected.
The Front Page – 8:00 p.m., Eat burgers! Show off your smarts! What more could you want?
Kingfisher – 8:00 p.m., If you’re looking for a relatively chill place to hang out on 14th, Kingfisher is the way to go. Eat all the popcorn, drink all the drinks and settle in for some geeky trivia.
Slash Run – 8:00 p.m., Tacos and trivia are the perfect combination. Sure, Slash Run is known for its burgers, but take a chance of their delicious tacos and $6 margaritas while you show off your smarts.
The Avenue – 8:00 p.m., Right on the border between D.C. and Maryland, this Chevy Chase bar might just convince all your suburb friends to come into the city for some sweet trivia.
Exiles – 8:00 p.m., The real draw here is the possibility of winning free beer for a year, but you can also fill yourself with delicious BBQ during the game, which is always enough to get us through the door.
Justin’s Cafe – 8:00 p.m., Justin’s is serving up some serious trivia down in the Navy Yard. Head over early because seats tend to fill up fast. Possible prizes include nightly gift cards, $1000, or free beer for a full year.
Kitty O’Shea’s – 8:00 p.m., Kitty O’Shea’s uses Trivia Kings, which electronically archives your team’s scores, not only for that night, but for the entire trivia season. Also, get the curry fries. They’re awesome.
Trusty’s – 8:00 p.m., Trusty’s uses Trivia Kings, which electronically archives your team’s scores, not only for that night, but for the entire trivia season. If you want to get extra competitive, grab a board game to play between trivia rounds. That will really show them who’s boss.
Ventnor Sports Cafe – 8:00 p.m., Hosted by Geeks Who Drink, we recommend you show up early to grab a seat before they’re all gone.
Capitol Lounge – 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Hosted by the Trivia Guys, this is way kookier than your average trivia night.
Irish Channel Chinatown – 7:00 p.m., A mixture of Irish charm and southern hospitality, Irish Channel is your best bet for trivia if you find yourself stuck in Chinatown.
Smoke & Barrel – 7:00 p.m., Fill yourself with bourbon and grit cakes and let the trivia begin.
Wunder Garten – 7:00 p.m., Your favorite year round outdoor beer garden has officially gotten into the trivia game. Hit up one of the local food trucks, grab yourself a craft beer and get ready to yell at strangers.
Tenley Bar & Grill – 7:30 p.m., Travel on up to the barren wasteland that is Tenleytown (I’m kidding, I promise) for some nice and nerdy trivia.
Dock FC – 7:30 p.m., Located in the middle of Ivy City, Dock FC’s trivia night is a good way to end a day of drinking at Republic Restoratives and eating at Ari’s Diner. Also, there will definitely be sports on the TV, if you care about that.

Buffalo Billiards – 7:30 p.m., Head on over for the CSN Trivia Challenge and District Trivia Tournament of Champions finals. There’s a group of about 70 regulars that come by for trivia once a week, so if you’re looking for fierce competition, this is the place to be.
St. Arnolds – 7:30 p.m., Show off your trivia skills with the folks at District Trivia while eating some delicious moules frites. It’s match made in heaven.
Lucky Bar – 7:30 p.m., Munch on a half price cheeseburger (including turkey or veggie) while playing trivia.
The Pinch – 8:00 p.m., Swing by one of your favorite local venues to rock out to some music and show off how smart you are.
The Brixton – 8:00 p.m., If you’re looking for some rowdy, party trivia, you’ve come to the right place.
Wicked Bloom – 8:00 p.m., Fill yourself up with delicious BBQ and come prepared to win.
Homestead – 8:00 p.m., Another locals bar, Homestead’s food and booze is absolutely delicious. If their trivia is even half as good, you’re in for a great night.
Provision No. 14 – 8:00 p.m., Come over to this huge multistory bar for what is sure to be a rowdy trivia night. Get a couple craft cocktails, get in fights with strangers about random facts and call it a night.
The Big Stick – 8:00 p.m., Grab yourself a specialty sausage and settle in for a night of trivia. You might even win free beer for an entire year.
Meridian Pint – 8:00 p.m., Hosted by District Trivia, even if you lose all night and feel like an idiot, at least you’ll have access to one of the best craft beer lists in D.C. There is a 20 team cap, so show up a little early to secure your spot.
Nellie’s – 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., Nellie’s Smart Ass Trivia includes two rounds with different themes. Not only can you win money off of your bar tab, but you can also win tickets to local events. It’s definitely one of the more fun trivia nights in D.C.
Solly’s U Street Tavern – 8:00 p.m., Trivia is every first and third Wednesday of the month. Each week benefits a different charity which means you can feel good about getting disgustingly drunk.
Stoney’s – 8:00 p.m., Show up early for happy hour from 3-7 p.m., which features $3 Stoney’s Amber, $4 rail cocktails, $5 grilled cheese and fries, and much more. There are five rounds as well as a half time competition for some free drinks. First place wins a $50 gift card, second place wins a $25 gift card, and third place wins a bottle of wine or they can pick the theme for the next week. The fourth pace team gets whatever third place didn’t pick.
Wisdom – 8:30 p.m., If you love gin and making people you don’t know feel stupid, this is your spot.

Roofers Union – 7:30 p.m., If you want nothing more than to enjoy some good beer and delicious snacks while you play Trivia, Roofers is the place to be. Order their brat. Just take our word for it.
Iron Horse Tap Room – 8:00 p.m., Come on over to this Chinatown bar for A+ trivia plus pastrami bombs from Smoke & Stacked. Not a fan of pastrami (who are you?) they’re also one of the few trivia spots that allow you to bring your own food. Pack a dinner! Order pizza! Sky’s the limit.
Arcuri –Â 8:00 p.m., Kick off thirsty Thursday the right way with a beer in your hand, a bowl of pasta in front of you and a super hard trivia question on your mind.
Crimson Whiskey Bar – 8:00 p.m., Whiskey definitely make you smarter, right?
The Big Board – 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Winners get prizes, losers get rail tequila. So I guess no matter what happens, we all win.
EatBar – 7:00 p.m., Want to get rowdy after spending after being prim and proper at Rose’s Luxury? Head on over to EatBar
Bar Elena – 7:00 p.m., Start off your night with skeeball and transition into some good trivia. Need to destress between rounds? Hit up that pinball machine.
DC Reynolds – 7:00 p.m., Even if you don’t win a prize, DC Reynolds promises that you’ll win the admiration of your peers. At the very least, you’ll probably go home drunk
City Tap House – 7:30 p.m., The Dupont location has a gorgeous patio and some very solid food, so we recommend you stop by early to spend a little time noshing and drinking outside. That will give you the strength you need to destroy your trivia components.
