All-Purpose Capitol Riverfront Rooftop
While All-Purpose Capitol Riverfront has been around for a few months, the rooftop is a new addition and has only been open for a week. Summer is on its way out, and along with it, the unbearable humidity which means its time for outdoor day drinking. I, for one, cannot wait to spend all my fall Sunday fundays on this new rooftop drinking aperol spritzes and stuffing my face with the restaurant’s delectable pizza.
Magnolia Bakery, New York’s most famous bakery thanks to the shout-outs it received on Sex in the City, is now opening in DC this fall. Located in Union Station, the bakery will have all the treats that it is known for, including red velvet cake, cheesecake, and banana pudding.
As a huge fan of Little Sesame I am super excited that they are re-opening (after closing their Dupont Circle location earlier this year) at 1828 L St. NW on August 28th. You will find me in line, waiting for my hummus bowl. Look out for our full review of the re-opening next Tuesday.
Italian Market opens at Lupo Verde Osteria
I love the food at Lupo Verde Osteria (see our review here), and now you can stop by for pastries, pasta and sandwiches during the day, as well as a bunch of different kinds of to-go foods like pastas, cheeses, olive oil, and jam at the venue’s first floor market.
This downtown fine dining venue just reopened, with a new look and a new menu. The savory flatbreads are one the best new additions; crispy bread is topped with crème fraiche and seasonal veggies. I also love the salads – they are huge and super generous on cheese which is always a plus. Don’t skip the dessert cart; it features everything from macrons to pies and tarts and candy.
Q by Peter Chang
Peter Chang’s Rockville and Arlington restaurants have almost a cult-like following, and Q, his newest endeavor, is likely going to follow in their footsteps. Since opening, Chang has greatly expanded the menu and added a host of vegetarian options. The dan dan noodles are spicy and authentic, while the thousand layer veggie roll is so crispy and savory you won’t be able to get enough. I also highly recommend the tofu skin salad and the pan-fried dumplings; Chinese food in DC does not get better than this!
From August 19 -26 there are a host of events taking place, all of which are outlined in our 2018 beer week guide. Highlights include beer flights at Sauf House Thursday, August 23, and beer floats at Pizza Paradiso Georgetown Saturday, August 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Head to Emery Heights Recreation Center on August 25th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to sample food from all of over the world. The event is hosted by the Mayor Bowser Administration’s Department of Parks and Recreation, with the goal of showcasing the diversity of the city residents through food.
Like running? Like tacos? Well you can enjoy both of these at the Kenilworth recreation center track on August 26th at 5:30pm, where guests will run a mile and then be treated to four tacos of their choice. Vegetarian and gluetn-free versions will be available. The event is hosted by Mayor Browser and tickets are free, but you do have to register here.
The White House Historical Association is hosting this week long event in Washington, DC starting August 27. Specialty cocktails, discounts and President-inspired dishes will be available at the Madison Bar, Lincoln, Teddy & the Bully, The Jefferson, Old Ebbitt Grill, Off the Record, and Round Robin Bar.
Local Swiss restaurant starts happy hour and weekly raclette night
Beginning August 28 Stable is launching their new “Wanderlust” program which means every Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. are new happy hour specials like an $8 cheese board and $6 Swiss beer.
Beginning the same week there will also be a weekly racelette night where every Thursday guests can stuff their faces with melted raclette platters for $8 all night long.
Bobby Flay is coming to D.C.
Love celebrity chefs? Bobby Flay himself will be at Bobby’s Burger Palace downtown on August 28 at 4 p.m., cooking up dozens of his burgers, which will be free for the first 100 guests! I’m a big fan of his veggie burger, which is made with wild mushrooms, quinoa and his famous BBQ sauce.
