WHEREIN: We bring you the developments (happening in and around D.C.) that we think are newsworthy, or, at the very least, almost newsworthy:
- Just in case you walked through the day with your eyes closed, there were a lot of walkouts. The charter school near my house did one and considering they’re mostly elementary aged students, it was the cutest damn protest I’ve ever seen.
- The most frustrating story you’ll read today is this Washington Post piece about the National Gallery of Art’s security guards.
- It’s Pi Day! While most people celebrate by grabbing a slice of apple pie or ordering a pizza… Some people decided to honor this holy holiday by getting married inside of &pizza. As my mom would say, to each their own.
- A woman tried to get 15 lbs of heroin through security at Dulles. The amount of confidence it must have took to try and pull that off is almost enviable.
- A 2001-esque obelisk has appeared in the middle of Ivy City and no one knows why.
- Like everyone else in the world, I’m tired of hearing about SXSW, but if you’re going to read anything about the festival it might as well be this.
- The Funk Parade might not happen this year, but there’s still some hope.
- Four local chefs have been nominated for James Beard awards and I’m proud of each and every one of them.
- Lupo Verde alum Domenico Apollaro is taking over La Tomate. It’s about time someone did something with that place.
- Trader Joe’s is bringing its insane lines and cheap wine to Union Market.
- Fox Loves Taco is jumping headfirst into the ice cream game.
- And Minibar says goodbye to its head chef of four years.
