Here’s your weekly D.C. restaurant news my friends. Warning: the below information will make you hungry. Extremely hungry.
Last week the British fast food chain LEON opened the doors to its first US location, at 1724 L St. The restaurant offers a healthier version of fast food, with items like juicy Portobello burgers, baked fries, wraps, salads, bowls and more. I love the black bean, rice, and roasted carrot bowl, and the hallumi wrap is fresh and hearty, with greens, tomatoes, and avocado. Breakfast, dessert and natural sodas are also on the menu. If you work in the area, this where you want to go for a quick lunch.
Now open near Union Market, Joe Carroll and Stephen Starr sat us down and told us what wines to enjoy in their new restaurant.
Kevin Tien, of the super popular Himitsu, will be opening his second restaurant this coming spring. Named Emilie’s, the restaurant will be located in Capitol Hill. The daily-changing menu will have large and small plates, with various small plates circulating the room on carts. The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner service and will seat approximately 100 guests inside the dining room and at the bar.
Winter is coming which means we need to drink more to ease the pain. Luckily, there’s a kinda new cocktail bar option in Adams Morgan, Grand Duchess, which will re-open on today, Wednesday, September 19. Expect cocktails, wine, craft beer as well as bar snacks and a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich menu.
Executive Chef Sebastien Rondier is fresh off a new marriage and a recent two-week trip to France. He has a comprehensive new menu focused solely on that most classic of bistro dishes, steak frites.
BLT Steak will be introducing a new decadent fondue menu beginning October 11. Guests can choose from three cheese options, including French, America, or Italian, and a chocolate option for dessert.
