In this column, we cover songs for you to nod your head to in the EDM scene [electronic dance music, not extra dancey music, for those not in the know].

Charlie Boulala “Sonnenkind (MÖWE)”

I have simply not been able to shake this tune from my mental jukebox since I heard on a mix by MÖWE. Get ready for a delicious slice of tech house funk from Charlie Boulala (love of the sound of his last name too). This tune is driven by jazzy trumpets over some hard hitting tech beats and comes with a smattering sultry vocals like the cherry on top. And if this wasn’t enough, Charlie gives away most of his music for free from his soundcloud page!

Arkaik “The Hustle”

Prepare yourself for this beastly growler fresh off The Hustle EP on Diffrent Music. Arkaik, one of my new faves, has put together an EP which is nothing short of nasty. This EP also features heavy rollers from Mauoq and Dexta.

Ed Nine “Rhythm N Shoes”

Next up is some Chicago house funk that I heard in a Mark Farina podcast. In Rhythm N Shoes Ed Nine makes the piano and flute flirtatiously dance over a tidy four-four beat and will have your foot tapping if not your booty shaking in no time. You can pick this one up from Midwest Hustle Music.

Substrate “Variable”

This one’s as fresh as they get, it was released this week on Proximity Records and is absolute dynamite. Substrate displays his low frequency manipulation skills with a down right filthy bassline which may you leaving twitching for days.

Ed:It & Pennygiles “Set Theory”

Heard this stomper played by the Dispatch Recording crew on their Rinse FM set and had to track it down. While reminiscent of the good ole days the production work on this tune is so good that it made me realize this is what the music from that era should’ve sounded like. This one was released last week on CIA.
