In this column we cover songs for you to nod your head to in the EDM scene [electronic dance music, not extra dancey music, for those not in the know].
This latest mixtape entitled “Excuse Me While I Kiss the Sky” from Belgian producer Consomateur features Nosaj Thing, Evol Intent, Daedelus, Gas Lamp Killer and some of his own productions. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this eclectic selection of bass-heavy beats, glitchy snares, and acoustic vibes.
- Fallgrapp – “Rieka”
An absolutely breathtaking album on Gergaz, a Slovakian label that has been a veritable fount of incredible releases from the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary and all parts Eastern Europe. Fallgrapp, Slovakian producer Juraj “Jureš” Líška fuses organic and electronic elements to create something absolutely inter-stellar.
- D’Angelo – “Brown Sugar” (IAMNOBODI Remix)
Soulection artist IAMNOBODI is somebody when it comes to bringing the extra soul into ’90s jams.
- Apollo Brown – “The Answer”
Detroit producer Apollo Brown knows a thing or two about the rolling-beat stylings of DJ Shadow and the little flourishes Blockhead is fond of. This is a track off the upcoming “Thirty Eight” album, releasing May 6th on Mello Music Group.
- Edward Newgate x Bentellect – “You Must Know Gatsby”
If you are looking for the clever version of The Cliff’s Notes for “The Great Gatsby,” this is it. Seriously. Thoroughly lavish and moving.
