In this column, I cover songs for you to nod your head to in the EDM scene [electronic dance music, not extra dancey music, for those not in the know].
Rudimental “Free Ft. Emeli Sandé (Maya Jane Coles Remix)”
Rudimental recently released the new single, “Free” from their highly successful album Home. The Maya Jane Coles remix epitomizes her signature sound–hypnotic bass, faster tempo, cleaner-sounding instrumentals. And as I have said in this column, Maya Jane Coles (whose recently released album Comfort is pure underground house bliss) can do no wrong.
Aluna George “Best Be Believing (Ta-ku Remix)”
“Best Be Believing” has been a veritable gold mine for remixes. Japanese heir-to-the-Nujabes-throne producer Ta-ku thoroughly overhauls the original, with absolutely breath-taking results.
Cutta Chase “Random Slang”
UK MC Cutta Chase is listed as residing on Writer’s Block, which is an affliction he clearly doesn’t suffer from. UK MCs have long held things down well proper in the cypher, peppering their lyrics with wonderfully droll Britishisms like “man around and shank you while you skanking at the next rave.”
Giraffage “Close 2 Me (Mist Glider & Aeropsia Remix)”
Mist Glider and Aeropsia remix the dreamy, trappy, sample-driven electro-pop of Giraffage, who makes frequent appearance in this column.
Lapalux “Swallowing Smoke”
