In this column, I cover songs for you to nod your head to in the EDM scene [electronic dance music, not extra dancey music, for those not in the know].

  • Machinedrum – “Vapor City
Machinedrum released his latest album Vapor City on September 30 on Ninja Tune and it is as glorious as you might imagine and easily one of the best edm releases of the year. And like any monumental musical epos worth its weight in vinyl, it even has a theme that he describes as a “series of songs inspired by a dream city– each song representing a different district.”
Definitely some vapors you’ll want to catch; the album pulses with the thrum of a city.
  • Lady Shah – “Inbassive Radio Mix

Local drum’n’bass purveyoress extraordinaire Lady Shah delivers a flawlessly mixed liquid set that will have you breathing that last breath of summer.

  • Godfather Sage Mix For Audio Infusion 88.9FM

A glorious trip through intelligent drum’n’bass and downtempoish minimal bass territory from Noisy Meditation guru Godfather Sage, also featuring music by local Translation Recordings resident Nature Rage.

Frequent A$AP Rocky collaborator, Clams Casino sets just the right kind of snarling, menacing atmosphere to steal cars to in this release from the Grand Theft Auto V soundtrack..

  • Dessa – “Call Off Your Ghost”
Dessa, Minnesotan hiphop and spoken word artist and Doomtree collective member, released her third solo album, Parts Of Speech, in June and is currently on tour. The album is exactly what you would expect from a talented wordsmith and a poet–visceral, profound, intensely personal, and a reminder of the natural synergy between the two genres.
