In this column, I cover songs for you to nod your head to in the EDM scene [electronic dance music, not extra dancey music, for those not in the know].
- Wookie – “The Hype” feat. Eliza Doolittle
Wookie is practically synonymous with UK garage – you might as well call him an UKG as he really is the OG of the genre. Just when people thought garage was being overtaken by its dubstep and future bass children, this track single-handedly proves this wrong and it is definitely hype-worthy.
- J. Dilla – “The Diamonds (The Shining Part I)“
This new single off the second 12-inch EP release from the late producer, Diamonds & Ice, is scheduled for release on August 27th. This is a taste of what is to come with the release of a new album featuring Dilla’s final works, “The Diary,” later this year.
- Fabolous – “OG”
Not an exaggeration to call this one of Fabolous’ best tracks. Totally out of left field, Fabolous reminds us he is actually a seasoned MC with the flow to prove it on this new track–oh, and he is releasing it for free.
- ColeCo – “You’re So Fine”
A ridiculously bubbly remix of Brandy’s “Baby.” Seriously fine.
- FloFilz – “Züri“
A lush jazz-tinged downtempo number from German producer FloFilz.
