Be sure to come early to catch Bay Area native Giraffage at the 9:30 Club, opening for Porter Robinson. With his woozy, electronica dreampop sound, he’s sure to get the vibes going, despite the fact that this show is on a Monday night. Giraffage is well known for his remixes, where he turns the original song on its head, churning out a bassed out euphoric synth jam, notably his remix of R. Kelly’s “Ignition.” Apart from his etheral remixes, Girrafage’s original songs showcase his signature sound, glitchy synths, and smooth vocal samples.
Thundercat frequently collaborates with Flying Lotus, so it comes as no surprise that they are touring together this fall. While Flying Lotus may represent the electronic side of things, Thundercat brings the bass, literally. His work as a bassist spans many different genres. From funk to jazz to psychedelic electronica, this is undoubtedly going to be a performance to come early for. You might be most familiar with his funky dance track, “Sheit It’s X,” off of his second album, Apocalypse.
Don’t let the name fool you — Shy Girls is anything but shy. Or a group of girls, for that matter. Portland singer and producer Dan Vidmar creates slinky bedroom music with dance undertones, something he manages to do with finesse. Catch him on tracks with ODESZA, Cyril Hahn, and check out his song “All For Show.” Grab your special somebody, head to Echostage early, and let his sultry croon seduce you.
Dream disco is the first thing that comes to mind when listening to Mr Twin Sister. Regardless, Mr Twin Sister’s brand of pop music falls on the more chilled out end of the spectrum. Something to listen to on a rainy day, at the end of the day, or during a long commute. “Out of the Dark” stands out from the rest of their tracks, with its glitchy bassline and slow build.
COIN says that they want to make music that makes you feel good, and they’ve done a great job of that. They’ve only a handful of catchy indie-pop tracks under their belts, but each one has the bright, shimmery spirit of a bunch of dudes that just want to have fun. Summertime vibes, all the time. Check out “Time Machine” and get ready to shimmy this Saturday.
