It’s pretty wild that Columbus Day is a national holiday. However, since it is, it means that you most likely have a three day weekend and that’s nice. What’s even nicer is the ability to spend Monday eating and getting drunk at brunch. D.C. is a brunch city through and through, and brunching is and will always be one of the best ways to spend your day off.
D.C.’s favorite Balkan restaurant is going hard on the bottomless brunch and is offering a full spread of small plates and drinks. Price at $39, it looks like the perfect plan of attack is to order one of everything off the menu as soon as you arrive, that way you can kick back and watch the food and cocktails churn out. Nothing says “day off” like a brunch filled to the brim with freshly made sangria and Spanish tapas. Go for the food, stay for the drinks (or maybe it’s the other way around).
When thinking about classic and reliable D.C. brunch spots, Founding Farmers always comes to mind. With breakfast and brunch options from light snacks to filling large platters, Founding Farmers can please even the most picky brunch eaters. Try a tomato florentine benedict or a goat cheese and beat hash with perfectly poached eggs. Though they do not offer bottomless brunch booze, their signature cocktails (like the Southside made with gin, lemon, mint, and bitters) are sure to please.
As the days get cooler, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern bites are the perfect fare to warm you up. Kapnos is serving up a traditional Greek brunch menu with a twist. From classics like baked egg shakshouka and gyros to Greek-style chicken and waffles roasted on a spit, there are plenty of delicious dishes to choose from. Wash all of that tasty food down with a selection from their craft cocktail list, like the Baby Hippo, which has vodka, watermelon, mint, lime, and hum liqueur.
